Team Teal Tuesday - Holding Space

My 7-year old niece, Presley, was very curious about why her cousin Cris {the groom} would save a seat for Grandma Marti and his friend, Shawn, knowing they couldn't be at his wedding. We explained to her that it was in memory of Grandma and Shawn, and just a nice way to remember them and wish that they could be there.

Presley asked, "Is the blue one for Grandma?" and her dad said, "Yes - and that's teal."

"Why is it teal?" she asked.

"Because that's the color that represents ovarian cancer - the kind of cancer Grandma had," he answered.

Presley considered this tidbit, and soon she replied, "Well then, is red just for regular death?"

"Yes," her daddy replied, "I suppose it is, sweetheart."
It's so sweet, and slightly heartbreaking, helping my mom's youngest grandchildren understand where she is and why she had to go. I love that the older "grands" {as Mom called them} are honoring her in ways that keep my mom with us ~ reminding us that she is everywhere we are.

Thanks to my nephew Cris and his beautiful bride, Mandi
for this sweet gesture honoring my mom, and also Shawn.
What a lovely way to hold a space for them,
in the audience and in our hearts.

What a lovely way to honor those who have gone. I know your Mom wanted to be there for this wedding - and I'm sure in her own way, she was!

Such a lovely thing for them to do. My beloved Gran passed away before my wedding. Instead of throwing my bouquet to the guests, I laid it on her grave.
