This Week In My Garden

Sweet friends! Thanks so much for your lovely comments on yesterday's 1,000th post! Oh, my day was so happy. :o) I thought I'd keep it light today and just share a few photos taken in our backyard this past weekend.

This year's blood orange crop is progressing nicely. These two oranges are right about eye level so I have plans to document their growth - like I'm desperate for something to photograph. Ha! They are a little challenging to photograph though, as they are shaped like...well...the two of them are an interesting arrangement.

I set out some more of these vincas and hope they survive better than the last batch. We've since had our sprinkler system/drip lines revamped, and Doug's fence has successfully kept Lucky from digging here, so fingers crossed that these beauties flourish.

I also did a little planting in some containers, including the flower pot that was supposed to glow-in-the-dark.

I didn't even realize until I was looking through my camera lens that something is eating my basil. Dang.

And here's the clown of the backyard, Lucky the Dog, at your smiley service. He's such a funny little dog; so entertaining too.

We're almost over the hump where summer heat is concerned. August is knocking at our door and puts us one step closer to autumn. I planted another round of sunflower seeds in hopes that we'll have a fall and winter crop this year. You know I'll keep you posted...

What's growing on your part of the planet right now?

1000 posts! wow! congratulations! and I love your summer garden. Here, it's all about tomatoes, basil, and geraniums.

I love the photo of the things getting ready to go in the garden. Right now, we're getting lots of little tiny tomatoes which taste sooo delicious. And we always have lemons. The apples and pears won't be ready until fall.

Loving getting to see more of your garden! We have masses of raspberries at the moment and the runner beans are just starting. But the tomatoes are a little way off yet.
We don't have a digging dog but we do have one that loves to run through the flower beds, trampling things under foot ( or under paw!)

During the NYC heat wave we had I added your town to my weather app so I can comfort myself by saying "96 here? well....at least it's not 105. Poor Deb."

So...I've been keeping up with Arizona weather! ha! and it's going to be 105 tomorrow!! are you SURE that it's going to cool down soon?? I sure hope you're right!

And your garden looks LOVELY! glad that fence is working. Does Lucky just dig somewhere else? There is something about Lucky that reminds me of Andrew ;) little playful, naughty rascals! ha!

though...one of Andrew's therapists is from New Mexico and SHE was complaining about the heat. And when I said "wait just one minute! you're from New Mexico!" she said it was the humidity that was so hard.

so...I guess there is something to that whole phrase...it's not the heat...

still...I applaud you for getting through your 105 degree days. that's gotta be rough stuff!

Other than flowers the only things we are growing this summer are in containers...sweet basil, chocolate mint and lemon mint. I just adore Lucky's face but you know I love WJ ;)

Hahaha, your comment about the 2 blood oranges is hilarious. Your doggie is gorgeous, and I'm so jealous of your garden! I live in Brooklyn and have some house plants, but my attempts at a windowsill herb garden turned out to be a total failure. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Our vegetable garden is the least productive it's ever been. It's so discouraging. Everyone is attributing it to the heavy rain we had earlier in July. Fortunately Tracy put the left-over plants in some big pots, and I've harvested a few eggplants and squash from them. My herbs in pots are good as well. It's funny how you don't see something right before your eyes until you photograph it. It happens to me a lot with papercrafting. I don't see a problem until I see the photo, and then I have to take the card apart to fix it!

What a lucky acquisition was your Lucky dog - just looking at that photo made me laugh out loud. A fine start to the morning I think!

I'm glad August is here, too. Soon the quality of light will look like autumn here in Phoenix, too, even though it won't feel like it for a few more months. My hibiscus has thrived this summer, its 4th year, when it almost croaked the previous 3 so I'm happy about that!

Oh Deb, you're funny. I hadn't even noticed the oranges. :) I miss our sunny garden - the trees just basically block it out except for where the deck is. :)
