Vacation Journaling

 Good day, blog friends!
And thank you for your sweet comments yesterday
welcoming our little Lucky-Dog.

Today I'm sharing the travel journal I plan to use when Carrie and I head to England at the end of next month, and I'm interested in your feedback about journaling while on vacation.

First, a little bit about my little book.

For my base, I used a plain Moleskine journal that Carrie gave me and added a few simple embellishments. {I love that the word chocolat is visible at the top of the book page scrap. I purposely avoided covering it with paint.}

I adhered a little scrap of book page with a glue stick, then a little bit of teal paint and a couple of random rubber stamps. The tie is a piece of elastic trim that I attached to the spine {with needle and thread} to hold it in place. The fact that it's elastic means that it slips over and off of the book rather than having to be tied/untied each time I use it.

I used a little stamp {from here} on some random pages inside. As I stamped it I imagined the different words I'll use to fill-in-the-blank and thought, "everyone of these will be filled with awesome." Haha - we'll see what other words I come up with during the course of ten days.

The little pocket in the back of the book holds a small bag of individual glue dots for adhering bits and pieces along the way.

While my sister and I were in California last month sorting through our mother's things, we came across Mom's travel journal from a trip she and my step-dad took to France several years ago. There wasn't a whole lot of journaling in it, but what she had written was really fun to read. It was a little piece of her, written just the way she talked, and it made me even more excited about our upcoming trip and keeping a travel journal myself.

Carrie has a little journal to bring along too, and we have vowed to remind each other to use it along the way to document our thoughts as we go.

So, what about you?
Have you kept a travel journal during a trip before?
I'd love to hear any helpful tips you might have to share.

i love it deb. that is perfect. i have always wanted to make one, but have never quite taken the right vacation for it. you can document all the new and exciting places you and carrie are going to see.

I think it will be a great place to capture not only your thoughts, but bits and pieces of ephemera that you pick up along the way. I used a pre-made travel journal for my 50th birthday weekend at Cape May and it was a perfect way to capture things!

I love that it has a turtle on the front! funny, the other day I found a holiday notebook I had kept when I was about ten - it brought back great memories and reminded me that even a few sentences can say a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing this one filled

what a lovely juornal. I've found that I need to incorporate writing in the journal as part of my daily routine in order to do it everyday. So I might always do it with a pre dinner wine; or when I first get up the next morning

Hooray for pocket-sized travel journals! You should fill it with everything and anything ~ from what you ate on the flight over to your boarding card to photos of London specific things ~ tube trains, buses and taxis, etc.
I did one for New York last year and I loved it. I pencilled off areas where I wanted to add a small photo once I got home and that worked well. In fact, you've given me an idea for a blog post ....

I ALWAYS keep a journal on every trip! My best was my California one last year - I made a note of things I liked about the hotels we stayed in, what we did each day and also my thoughts about the places we visited. It is great to have it to read back on, not only just to read, but also to use for scrapbook prompts. I stuck postcards/receipts, etc onto some of the pages too.

I've only journalled on one holiday and it was when we went away for a year. It became like a millstone around my neck though! I think its easier now with phones etc because you can jot stuff down as you think about it and then transfer it later. Have fun!

Your journal is much cuter than anything I've ever used :) I used to just take a notebook to write in at the end of the day and then I used to make a scrapbook when I got home. I think journalling along the way and adding photos etc., will be much easier. xx

It looks super! I've always meant to do one but then it never happens. You've got me thinking though I should do one for our trip to San Diego next weekend.

This ought to work well. My most successful vacation journaling has been in a moleskin journal (no prep, no embellishment) or on the computer. I've made some travel journals in advance, and find I just don't use them. I can't wait to hear all about your trip.

Your travel journal is adorable! I make travel journals with envelopes, to make sure i have place to store memorabilia. YOu can see the tutorial at this link:

I always put an itinerary in there, too. My best tip is to always jot down a few things every day.
