Last week I posted a couple of pictures on Instragram.
I mentioned in the caption that Whiskers just might be my best cat ever.
Then I followed it up with a photo of Fancy saying, "Or maybe this jealous girl..."
~ Whiskers Jay and Fancy Jane ~
Well, that didn't sit so well with my girl C who happens to be Fancy's biggest fan. And she took it a step further and asked about each of the other cats we've ever had in the past, coming back around to wondering how I could claim that Whiskers was the best. Consider this questioning given the fact that Carrie actually witnessed Whiskers being born and gave him his common name when he was about five minutes old.
I love Whiskers. And maybe I feel a stronger bond with him because I've had to nurse him back to health a couple of times during his 9-lives. Once when he was eight weeks old and was first weaned from his momma cat {I carried him around for an entire weekend and forced kitten formula down his throat with an eye-dropper}. And there was the time he ate a yard of ribbon off my craft table and had to endure a horrific surgery to have it removed from his intestines. Ugh - that was awful! Anyway, I love that cat.
Funny how I feel like I have to defend my reasoning, and also that I feel a little guilty saying I have a favorite, because really, I do love our sweet Fancy Jane.
So, I'd like to know what you think. Do you have a pet {doesn't have to be a cat!} that really stands out in your mind as your best-pet-ever? And why was he/she your favorite?

No "best pet ever" but between the two cats we have right now, Ashley is definitely the favorite. She is loving and sweet and likes to lay under the throws on the sofa with you. Kira is a bit bipolar and is just as likely to hiss and bite at you for petting her as she is to purr. They are sisters... and different as night and day.
We had a Siamese cat we all loved. We got him when I was 11 and I was a married 24 year old when he died. Every day when I came home from school he would be waiting on the window sill at exactly the right time
The Brainy One adores our dog. But for me, it was the cat we had when I was at school. We got her as a kitten and she took herself off to die about 15 years later. She died not long after my dad and I'm sure she went off because she knew how upset my mum would be. She was tabby and white, with the sweetest nature, except when you tried to move her off the rocking chair!
Lucy was my best ever pet...a labrador collie cross....we got her as a puppy when DD1 was 3....and she lived 15 years. She was the friendliest, kindest, loyalist, good natured, most well behaved dog you can imagine. But when a stranger shouted at DS suddenly her hackles rose and she had to be held back....it's the only time I ever heard her snarl....so we knew she would ptotect us as well.
She makes the 2 much loved dogs we have now look like hooligans!!!
When we moved into our home we bought a German Shepherd Pup. We named him Rookie because it was my husbands first year on the Police Force. Even though Rookie was a large pup we housed him indoors. His paws pounding on the hardwood floors would sound as if we had an elephant in the house. Running on the waxed floor was hard to stop so he would slide and body slam into the furniture. He was my protection for two years when my husband was working nights. I loved that dog. Rest in Peace Rookie!
Fancy Jane is my favorite ever pet. So there.
(But she's tied with Maynard.)
I would have to say that my current dog is the best pet ever. It is the first pet that has been truly mine. All the others were the kids, even when I took care of them 90% of the time.
Which cat took down the Christmas tree? Just wondering . . .
I had a cat when I was growing up, "Fluffy," who saw me through everything. The family dog, "Happy," was also an awesome pet.
But, I know that I have never bonded with an animal before in the way that I have bonded with our current dog Gypsy. And that goes for the Paul and Henry, too. She is just so sweet and loving. She brings out a really sweet side in all of us. . . kind of a therapy dog, really.

I must admit I have never had much of an affinity with cats, having an allergy that tends to be set off by them doesn't help! Apart from a few goldfish during my childhood, by best ever (and only other) pet would have to be my rabbit Becky. She was adorable :o)
Great shots of your feline friends.
During my childhood we had three dogs. Sukie - a black poodle who was in the family before I was born - horrible thing, quite moody and prone to biting. Judy - a 'bitsa' dog that we got from a rescue centre. Bitsa this and bitsa that - I loved her so much and she had the kindest sweetest temperament. Then Musk, a tibetan terrier cross breed, again a rescue dog with the sweetest nature, tough to decide between him and Judy to be honest. And now of course I puppy-share Coco one day a week, who is adorable. Don't make me choose!
I couldn't possibly choose between my two cats I love/hate them both in equal measures depending on who is misbehaving at the time. They will be 17 next month and yes, that's old and grumpy in cat years.
Other than bunnies, I never had more than one at a time. Though I did have some bunny favorites I have to say.
Our current girl is my favourite, she is extremely gentle and fantastic with everyone, young or old. She seems to have a sense of when it is right to play and when it is right to be calm .... either with 96 yr old great grandma or a toddler.
I have to say that our Kiera Boo is my absolute favouritest dog of all. Out of the three we have had she is more mine and loves me to bits and the affection is returned.
She is my substitute baby when Gracia is away.
It has to be Boo, who is my little companion when DH and her 'real mummy' are away!
have had a quick catch up Deb..love the strawberries and all the lovely pics!

I can't even big in to say how much I love my dog Scout. She is the only one in my family who never gives me any grief and never complains about my coking.
Fancy has never hissed at me. Just saying'!!! xoxo
I've only ever had one pet - our late dog Jethro - and truthfully he was really John's as he had him before I came along but boy I loved that dog. My sister might argue & say I had a cat too - but it was my sister's and only my sister's.
I had a wonderful cat named "Binkie" (comes with a very long, but delightful story- but too long for a comment form). He would follow me everywhere...I loved that sweet cat and miss him very much. He looked very much like your Whiskers Jay.
