Doug scoffed a bit, saying these weren't really donuts, but I beg to differ.
Cornbread made in a muffin tin becomes cornbread muffins, right?
Ok, then.
Cornbread donuts.
The verdict: These were really good, but a little crumbly and didn't hold their shape very well once you picked them up. I hadn't made the cornbread batter from scratch this time - used a Marie Calendars mix which tends to be a bit more cake-like. I thought they were a cute little addition to a bowl of chili.
And besides, it puts me one step closer to my goal.

creative way to reach your goal! Now when you make banana nut donuts, please send me some! ;)
They look appetizing and make a beautiful presentation. About the crumbling... I like mine mixed with chili, anyway.
I have no idea what cornbread is - but I like the idea of presenting mini-donuts at the side of savoury dishes (or sweet ones). I have two 12 mini-donut baking pans an have regularly made 3,000,000 mini-donuts (or so it seemed) for school & scout bake-sales ... just wondering if a bread or dumpling mix would work now ...
They certainly LOOK good with the chili...10/10 for presentation!

I love that you did this! :) They totally count as donuts!
Who knew! Since I have a very deep love for both cornbread and chili, I'd say it was a win-win! Very cute idea! xoxo
very cute deb! and I agree - it can be a cornbread donut!
Good way to vary your theme and not have to do frosting again. Good move :0)
My mind is racing ahead to week 52 .... what will you be putting in that machine by then?! This is a pretty practical idea though and I can imagine it was delicious!
Well they look cute nestled along side the chilli. Very inventive!
I think you are very clever, and the chili looks good too.
I ADORE these! Glad you got out of the donut maker recipe book and even happier that you had good results.

p.s. go check my blog!
They look yummy and sure if they're made in a donut maker - they're donuts. :)
Sounds good to me. Chili and cornbread is definitely a favorite here.
