Here's the thing about online scrapbooking classes and me:
My own pace is usually slower than that of my classmates.
♥
I signed up for Shimelle's Pretty Paper Party and I had every intention of being fully engaged.
But it didn't take long for me to feel behind in the prompts.
Oh, sure, Shimelle's big thing is that there are no deadlines...it's ok to skip around on the prompts...it's ok to not keep up with the daily prompts...work at your own pace...
But it's in my nature to feel a little bit anxious about not keeping up {I suppose it's that way for each of us at times}. When I see some of my blog friends posting lovely scrapbook pages on a daily basis and I've only managed a couple of cards from Prompt #1, the self-judgment starts and I feel behind! I paid $18 for the class, and I haven't made it a priority to fully participate.
So, in the spirit of
I really enjoy seeing the beautiful layouts that some of my blog friends are posting. I applaud them for keeping up with Shimelle's prompts. It makes for great blog post material...
As for me? I'll just be over here...playing at my own pace.
I am the turtle, after all.

PS: The vintage "Timmy the Turtle" belonged to my step-dad Rod. I just love having him in my craft room. :o)
I know exactly how you feel Deb and that was one of the reasons I didn't sign up for Shimelle's class - I know I don't have the time at the moment. Good for you for realising you just need to do things at your own pace :)
xx
PS I love the vintage turtle - he's so cute!
I love your turtle friend - so very cute!
But Deb, slow and steady always wins the race! (or so I'm told). Love your "cool papers" bin and the vintage turtle is really cute!
slow and steady is just fine deb! You have to remember with mom and the move plus work plus getting over your own stuff, you have a super full plate right now. Enjoy the class, use it when you can, and don't let it bother you that you're behind. The last thing you need is to put more pressure on yourself. enjoy the journey, turtle friend.
Love the way that little furry friend always sneaks into a photo somewhere! What a great vintage turtle, I can see why you love it.
I didn't sign up for this Shimelle class as I am still very cross with myself for not finishing LSNED!
I'm with you Deb - we can be slow and steady together. I am at about the same stage. Just have fun doing it - that's what I'm aiming for :0)
Slow and steady works! Love Timmy and the peek at your stash

Slow and steady definately works,Deb....and I just love that turtle.
oh thank goodness .... someone is working at the same pace as me!! lol :)
Life doesn't allow for regular scrapping time for everybody so when I see blogposts with fabulous daily updates it makes me squirm a little that I can't be that dedicated :(
You have actually got further than me though .... I have yet to show my scrap room photos let alone the two layouts I have managed to do!!! xx
Some. Some .... Some? Of your papers? I am indeed living a sheltered existence!
Your photo today is precisely why I did not sign up for this class, I wouldn't have enough to actually make even one of the pages I have seen as an example.
Deb, don't feel guilty or inadequate about how you manage to participate within an online class, sometimes they just don't fit with everything that is going on in life - the real stuff, the important stuff.
Today's post is thoroughly delightful and one which says so much about your personality ... this is the important connection that come through blogging and scrapping :-)
First of all I love the turtle... it's awesome!
Second, I am the same way as you. With this class I just finished my layout for the 5th prompt. Okay, so I am actually ahead of you for this one, but honestly, most of the time, I am in the same position as you are when it comes to these classes. For JYC I only had completed three pages when it was already the 30th of Dec!!! And for True Stories I don't think I even got past the 2nd day! However, I have realized that I still get my monies worth from the classes if I even learn something from a few of the prompts and apply it to my projects! I've gotten over never keeping caught up. It's the nice thing about Shimelle's classes... you don't have to keep up. You can come back and work at your own pace when you feel like it. The class is always there!
I can't wait to see some projects from you when you start to create! I'm sure the wait is worth it!!
No pressure, no deadlines, and definitely no competition :) I'm one of those rotten people who's been posting daily creations, aren't I? But only because I ordered 300 prints of our fabulous summer and I'm desperate to get them onto pages, and I actually have a bit of time at the moment with being on our half term break. Please don't feel that we have to work at the same pace! I'm an overachiever, remember? xx
Oh Deb. I hear you. There have been times that just making it as far as the craft room to look at paper has been an acheivement.
If it's any consolation, I fully intended to work through Explore and LSNED this year and didn't do either. I didn't even download the prompts. It just wans't the right time for me. And it's obviously not the right time for you.
There's nothing worse than forced crafting just to 'keep up' so let go of those feelings that make you feel as though doing a little just isn't good enough. You're worth far more than that x
It's my personal belief that scrapbooking should be fun, no pressure allowed, and you are doing a great job playing along at your own pace. I'm not completing all the prompts (nor in order), but just puttering with what inspires me each day or so. Great job with prompt 1.
Hahaha Deb!! That is so me...I manage for the first 2/3 days then I end up falling woefully behind everyone else!!
Hope u have fun with the rest of the class whenever you do it...
Take care
Kirsti xx
This post really, really spoke to me today! I have lots of things going on, yet I feel a strong urge to slow down just now. I didn't sign up for the class for this very reason. You have put it beautifully!
I've only completed two layouts but am feeling pretty good about the class, since there would have been NONE without it. Hope to find some time this weekend to do another one. I skipped a couple of classes since I knew I couldn't keep up, but I thought I'd better try and make some use of the kits I've been accumulating and not using. We'll get there. Slow, but steady, is a good motto!
I was going to say "slow and steady wins the race" and thought that would be original, but ha!, everyone else beat me to it. I love your nicely labeled bins!
Rinda
I envy the order of your paper stash.
Hehe, I have only done prompt 1 and 2... And no 3, but I haven't photographed it yet (can you spell it like that?!). I think you should do it your way and in your pace :-D
Love the turtle!! Soooo cute!
I'm glad you're doing the class! And I love getting a peek into your workspace!
I've so far managed to do Prompt 1 and Prompt 2. That's it. Try not to stress about it too much! Have fun with it!
Oh and when I post daily pages? Usually it's because I went to a crop, completed ten pages and set my blog to post them one day at a time, not because I'm scrapping everyday!
Love your turtle. Boy did this post ever speak to me - no matter what the class I get so far behind on them. I keep printing everything off or saving it in hopes of actually doing them.
Deb, I just read this post and want you to know that I am WAY behind on the class! I am just doing the classes as and when I have the time or feel like it and not stressing over it. I post layouts when I have done them - they are not in order that Shimelle has posted the class and to me that doesn't matter. What matters to me is that I am enjoying doing them when I do them! So I hope you do too! That after all is what it should all be about - not keeping up, but enjoying it.
