My Sister's Veggie Squares

My sister, Valerie, makes these veggie square
appetizers and they are always a big hit.
I make them occasionally too, and I thought I'd
share the recipe here on my blog.

Our niece, Krissy, loves these things and requests them for family get-togethers. Now that she's married with a home of her own, I thought I'd do a blog post about them that she could follow. They are super easy to make! {Krissy, you can bring these to the next family gathering!} ;o)
So, you start with a container of crescent rolls. Roll the dough out flat and pinch the perforated lines together to make one flat piece of dough. Bake as directed on the crescent roll can and let this cool completely before moving to the next step.
Mix one 8 ounce package of soft cream cheese with 1/3 cup of Ranch dressing {yes...ranch dressing again...}. Spread it evenly on the crescent roll crust, then sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese.
Break up some broccoli and cauliflower into small bits and scatter on top of the cheddar cheese (it doesn't take a whole lot, and you want the pieces to be fairly small here...). Also, drain a small can of sliced black olives and scatter those on as well.
Next step: mash it down.
Cut it up...
Sample it...
Stack it...
Enjoy!
Yummy!
This puts me in the mood to make another batch.

PS: I've also made these with different toppings - green onions, ham and pineapple... I suppose you could add any type of vegetable. This version is so good though, and I always go back to the basic recipe.

They look so yum - but another of those 'we dont get that here' - what type of base do you get from the crescent roll? bread like? pizza like?

Crescent rolls? Would that be croissant style pastry? They look yummy!

We too don't have Crescent rolls but it looks like Debs is right? The veggie part is all raw Deb? I think these would be quite delicious and I can imagine a variety of toppings to suit ... hmmm, yummo!

:o) Every time I post a recipe I take for granted that everyone around the planet will know what I'm talking about. Oops! Not so.

Yes, the dough is similar to that of a croissant. We can buy a can of the dough here in the US and make individual roll-up buns.

And yes, the veggies are raw and crunchy and yummy.

Ranch dressing is just a creamy salad dressing that we have here. If you don't have access to it, maybe there is another creamy salad dressing you could try in its place.

These are some seriously delicious appetizers though, so I hope you'll give them a try!

Love,
~ Deb xo

Oh my, I can imagine those being a hit in so many places. Around here (with a large Latino population and spending time with lots of little kids), ranch dressing is sometimes called . . . "white salsa." How funny is that!
