Trying a new design...

This past weekend while my mom was visiting, we tried out a new mini-book design. (I was inspired by a book I saw on Heidi Swapp's blog.)
A trip to the scrapbook store was fruitful ~ I purchased Cosmo Cricket's "Material Girl" line for my book (Mom used a line with cute strawberries and a garden theme). I just love CC's paper and the colors in this line!
Bazzil "plastic paper" was used for the front cover. This is a piece of clear acetate that I was able to cut with my paper trimmer. Actually, you score it and the pieces just pop apart.
I covered a piece of chipboard with patterned paper on each side for the back page to give it stability. This was my first attempt and looking at this view of the book I'm wishing I had inked the edges of my pages before I put it together...next time!
The spine for this book is a 4" x 12" strip of cardstock that I scored and folded at 1" intervals. I used tacky tape to adhere the 4"x6" pages to the accordion spine, and I glued a 2-1/4" piece of cardstock around the spine to keep the accordion from flopping apart.

Can't wait to embellish it with photos and quotes!

I love this little book (and the sewing machine on the front page). What a lovely idea - might have to try and make one myself (if you don't mind!) :)

Let's see.........which was more fun? Making this little book or spending time with my DD? Yes, the DD wins again! However, loved crafting this little jewel! I've got a couple of ideas for my next one! xo

Ohhh, this turned out glorious!!! It's adorable. I better run (not walk) to my nearest Scrap store for some of this.
Also, I LOVED seeing your workspace. You and the hubby did a great job!

That sounds like a lovely day!

I do like your little book - it's very sweet! I love accordian-folded spines. I tend not to add a cover to the spine, but use a wrap-round fastening, so there's room for the book to expand when you add photos and embellishments. But I really like the way you did your spine and I think I will have a go!
I also like the acetate cover. I hadn't heard of Bazzill plasic before. I'll look into that - I was looking for acetate sheets today, for my current project. Thank you!
