Three little words that changed my life forever

Carrie ~ one week old
In my dreams you are still a little girl who looks up to me. You are small enough to have to reach upward to hold my hand, and I have to bend down to kiss your sweet cheek.

In my dreams it is still my sole responsibility to ensure your happiness and well-being; to come to your rescue when you are in need, and to wipe away your alligator tears. In my dreams I still hold you in my arms and rock you to sleep.

But I am wide awake now, and I see you stand before me in a grown up body. I see you making decisions for yourself and living your life in a way that amazes me and makes me proud to know you. I am awake and I am learning that I can't always ensure your happiness and well-being, and that's a really hard habit to break.

I am awake now and I know that you don't always want me to tell you want I think. You don't always want to hear how I would do things differently, and you rarely ask for my advice. I am awake and I see that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to, without my help.

There are days I want to fall asleep and dream those sweet dreams again; to feel your tiny hand in mine and hear you call me Mommy once again. But we're awake now, both of us. Things are different, and I just couldn't be more proud of you, Carrie.

Those three little words that changed my life forever?
"It's a girl."
Happy birthday to my best friend, soul sister, and amazing daughter, Carrie. I am so honored to know and love you on this journey. xo
