The Weekend's Walk for Hope

Good Monday morning, blog friends.
I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was awesome.

Carrie and I participated in the 2013 Walk for Hope held at the Phoenix Zoo. Our weather was spectacular, and made for a perfect Sunday morning walk. The walk was sponsored by City of Hope - Walk for Hope for a Cure for Breast Cancer. We got there before the sun was totally up...

This was our first year walking for this event, and we did so with our long time friend Nikki and her family. Nikki's mom is a breast cancer survivor, so we walked in honor of the battle she fought and won.

Here's a fun bit of history: Nikki and I were friends and co-workers way back when. She met her husband, Thomas on a blind date on the same day that Doug and I first met at our co-workers party. Two years later Doug and I were married, and two weeks after that Nikki and Thomas were married. Sweet, huh?

Anyway, back to the walk. There were a ton of people there (never heard an actual count) and it was so much fun to be there early and see the animals out and about. If you get there later in the day the animals are all lazing around in the shade or tucked into their habitats trying to keep cool.

Here are a few animal shots, all taken with my phone camera.

Doug was away on a turkey hunt this weekend {the only thing he brought home was a broken down truck, a flat tire, a questionable package of uncooked chicken, and three heart shaped rocks}, so after the walk Carrie and I headed out for a yummy breakfast. I was driving her home when we decided to make a spontaneous trip to Costco. We had so much fun looking around, trying food samples, and buying yoga pants, flowers, and a suitcase. I loved my time with her yesterday morning!

And now Monday is here and there's a busy week ahead of me. Oh what I wouldn't give to have the week off work so I could do nothing but sit at my sewing machine - I'm on a bit of a sewing kick right now with all kinds of fun projects calling me.

Ah, but it's off to work I go...
hi-ho. hi-ho.
Have a great week everyone!

What a great venue for an event like this. I managed to get the sewing machine out today and didn't quite finish up before the children arrived home. Hope you get the chance soon x

This was one fabulous place to have a walk. I love that photo with the giraffe. No giraffes in our zoo here.
