Last year at this time my mom was working her way through the final stages of ovarian cancer. Even though she died on October 9, September is the month I look back on and hate the most.
September 2012 was a month of worrying and waiting and wondering when the inevitable was going to happen. It was a month of sleepless nights, blurry days, and constant thinking. Thinking. What to do and when to do it. Constantly.
And now September is here again and I'm faced with the memories of what it's like to lose an amazing someone to such a crappy, horrible disease.
Last September I learned about "Teal Toes" - an organization that encourages women to paint their toenails teal for the month of September in an effort to spread the word about ovarian cancer. The idea is that you have this crazy color on your toes and if/when someone notices, you then have an opportunity to share some information about ovarian cancer.
So last year, Carrie and I put teal on our toes and so did the rest of the women in our family, as well as a whole bunch of sweet ladies known as Team Teal. And this year we're doing it again.
♥ You can read more about my mom here.
♥ I created a hashtag in honor of my mom {Marti}. If you post a photo I'd love for you to include the tag so I can see. :o) #tealtoesformarti

Sorry for your loss and the memories September brings to you. I've followed your links and am all teared up from reading your Moms letter. She sounds like such an amazing lady.
After work today, I'll be bringing out the teal polish and joining in on the #tealtoesformarti.
I'm going for my pedicure in 30 minutes ~ will post a photo later. Do I need to be on Instagram to use the hash tag thing??
For Ruth - a hashtag will work for Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, so if you post a photo through any of those mediums you can use #tealtoesformarti :o)
{{hugs}} sweetie, going teal this week, it got so much attention last year plus I loved the color! Remembering Marti :)
Mine are done!........in my thoughts sweet friend!
Alison xx
You are in my touts and I will try and paint my toenails this weekend xx
Sorry, meant thoughts, not touts xx
That is such a great idea, I shall try and find some teal nail polish before my toes get hidden away for the autumn :) x
Such a fabulous idea, will purchase a teal nail polish when I go shopping. Thinking of you!
Thinking and praying for your family this Autumn Deb. The teal polish is on the side all ready to be put on tomorrow.
It's a great way to remember your amazing mom, and create some awareness. I just got my pedicure--wish I'd known ahead of time.
Thinking of you, Deb. I am going teal tomorrow.
What I can't believe is that it is September and almost a year. It's not warm enough here, consistently, to have the toes out so I will wait and then dazzle all those in my environs with my Teal Toes!
I was getting ready for back to work on Sunday eve when I saw your pic of nail varnish! I rushed upstairs to find my teal bottle to get those teal toes done.
Can't believe a year has passed. And oh how proud she would be of you to see how you've coped and what you've done in the last 12 months. I
I'm going to try to do my toes this month as well. Sending you lots of hugs and good thoughts.

Thinking of you all this month particularly. I adore this colour so much and I've had a lot of interest which is great. I wear it on my fingers too because it is usually too cold for our toes to be out here! Its warm at the moment but due to drop considerably after tomorrow... I may have blue toes anyway!
Going teal for Marti. Keeping you in my prayers.
I'm so sorry for your sad loss. Your Mom sounds really special. I'll keep you in my thoughts this month, and I think teal toes is a fantastic idea :) xxx

My pedi will be later in the month but I'll post a pic then (even though I can't stand my toes!). I knew this might be a tough month for you so please know you're in my thoughts!!!
