Pizza Stories

I'm going to guess that I was about 10 years old when my parents took us on a road trip from California up to Oregon to visit some friends. It was during that trip that we went to a bowling alley, and I had the best pizza of my entire life. I'm sure I'd had pizza before, but never any that had Canadian bacon on it, and I remember the cheese being extra thick and stretchy. Oh my gosh, it was so delicious - delicious enough that I still remember it to this day - 40ish years later! In fact, it's the only thing I remember about that road trip...other than being car sick but that doesn't belong in this story. :o]

When I was a little older, a big treat for us kids was to go to a near-by town (Los Banos, California) to have pizza at a place called "Me & Ed's." Oh, we thought that was the best pizza! And it was a tradition to pop a quarter in the jukebox and play Neil Diamond's "Song Sung Blue" - every. time.

A few years ago I had an opportunity to have a slice of "Me & Ed's" pizza and it was every bit as good as I remembered, minus "Song Sung Blue."

Today our favorite local pizzeria is "Classic Italian" {For my locals: they're in the process of relocating to the SW corner of Guadalupe & McClintock this fall}, and I do throw together a homemade pie now and then - I like it meatless with some fresh basil from my garden.

So I'm curious - do you have a pizza story?
What's the best pizza you've ever had?

I'm not a big pizza fan (why do you call it pie?), but I do like prawn (shrimp) with fresh tomato and basil. Or potato.

the best pizza I have ever had was in Pisa in Italy... thin thin crust with tomatoes, fresh herbs and different cheeses. For some reason I do not like fish or meat on pizza I am plain/veg all the way xxx

I don't have a story to tell about pizza but love the look of yours ;)
Norma and I are now on Weight Watchers and Thursday night (when we weigh in) has become pizza night because it's quick and easy when we get home. Italian Stonebaked Mediterranean Roast Vegetable pizza is a favourite at the moment. Before I would have eaten a whole one but now we have half each ;)

We have a fab Pizza Place in the next village...owned by a French lady would you believe?! I make a mean pizza myself, but always put FAR too much cheese on them!

I don't have a pizza story either, unless you count those awful frozen ones from the early 1980s. However, The Brainy One does make an excellent pizza; toppings are always my home-made tomato sauce (packed full of hidden vegetables), peppered salami and mozzarella. Delish!

I remember when Pizza Hut opened in our town in the 90s and how we all loved their Hawaiian Deep Pan pizza. Ham and pineapple - what were we thinking?! Nowadays I love Pizza Express pizzas. They do the thin crust ones and they come up on a slate plate, still sizzling from the oven- makes me feel hungry just thinking about it.

As a youngster (pre-teen) getting pizza from Uno's Pizzeria in Chicago (the original one) was a HUGE treat. That was deep dish. Since my teens, my favorite pizza has been Mack & Manco's in Ocean City, NJ. Super thin crust and we usually just get it plain - cheese and sauce - nothing fancy. Something about it is just so tasty and hasn't been duplicated anywhere. Pizza is the one major cheat I allow with the Paleo diet - and locally the best (only stuff worth eating actually) pizza comes from a little Italian Restaurant called Roman Delight. I get the "Brooklyn" which is thin crust with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and green peppers. And always have enough for lunch the next day!

Well, I had the benefit of living in Switzerland, right next to Italy....and true authentic Italian pizza is still my favorite. With onions preferably. But I do love some really good NY style pizza too! Oh...and Neil Diamond....how I do love his music! XO

When David and I went on our first real date he took me out for Pizza. I was so nervous that I dropped chocolate fudge cake down my white top. We have pizza and film night every Saturday without fail!

One of our favorites comes from a newish wood-fired pizza place near our house. It's called the Alexander, and has shrimp and a horseradish sauce. To die for! We started grilling our own pizzas this summer and love them. My favorite is fresh tomatoes, pesto, fresh mozzarella, and basil on a garlic-herb crust. Hmm, it's first thing in the morning, and you have me hungry for pizza!

I'm just about to have my lunch, and those photos have me drooling.

I think my pizza story is that it took me to the grand old age of 17 before I tasted pizza and I had to cross the ocean to do it

I do like a good pizza, especially one with a lot of veges. I can't say the best pizza I've ever had, but I'll think about it.
