A Salad for the Turtles (and one for me)

I've been wanting to bring a little cohesiveness to the random nature of my blog {don't worry - it will still be plenty random}. I really enjoy publishing blog posts during the week, and having a bit of a blog post schedule helps me keep track of things.

It started a few years ago when I began posting Just a Quote for Friday. Then I accidentally started doing weekend recaps on Mondays almost two years ago and that's become a fun habit. I think having those regular features on my blog inspires me to pay attention and notice things around me that are noteworthy {...there's-a-story-there} and to take more photos.

So without making a big deal about it, I've been posting food related posts on Wednesdays for the past month or more. When I started, I created the post label "Food on Wednesday" because, try as I might, I just couldn't come up with a clever, sing-songy other thing to call it. Ha - I still can't! Anyway, I didn't want to make a big deal about it just in case I tried it and it fizzled out on me {cough...52 donuts} so I just kept it on the down low.

And now that that's out of the way,
today we're talking turtle food.

I need to be better about packing a lunch for myself during the week. Somehow I seem to be able to make time every morning to prepare delicious meals for our turtle friends - although a lot of times that involves simply thawing out some frozen shrimp and adding a side of cantaloupe.

One morning last week I was chopping some veggies for our turtles and I thought, "Hey, this would make a really good lunch for me too" so I pulled a few other ingredients together and made myself a salad to take to work. Rexy and Casper didn't get feta cheese or diced chicken though - their protein came in the form of a little sprinkle of "Turtle Treat" which is a really smelly shrimp-something-or-other in a jar. They love that stuff, and I hold my breath while doling it out.

Later that day, as I enjoyed my salad for lunch, I thought about how we take care of our pets. We love and dote on our dog, cat and two turtles, and it occurred to me that they just might eat better {healthier} than Doug and I do. How did that happen?

Gosh, they are such awesome pets and I know they deserve it, but they would probably say the same thing about us as their masters. If they could talk...surely they would...

Ok, the cat probably doesn't care, but the turtles might.

PS: I got my camera back! :o)!

Cohesive or random, I enjoy reading your blog. And yes, I agree that we take better care of our pets than we do ourselves. But they love us unconditionally and are so worth it.

I do like that last photo :). One happy and well nourished little turtle. Like your realisation too - we don't have any pets here but the is such truth in what you have so keenly observed.

Just don't pick up the wrong salad, I don't think you'd appreciate turtle food at lunch time! In the 4th picture it looks like you have laid out Rex's salad in a turtle shape. Is that a trick of the light or do you REALLY spoil those pets of yours? !

Haha - no, Debs14, I didn't purposely lay Rexy's food out in a shape, though I never thought of doing that. He typically walks over it and scatters it everywhere before he starts eating anyway, so I think any shape would be lost on him. :o)

Yes, I do believe we take better care of our pets sometimes - as proven by the fact that my cats are now eating $50 a bag special cat food and I'll be taking the allergic one to the pet dermatologist in September. Very hard to get an appointment with them... amazing that there are so many pets out there with skin issues!

SO, SO thrilled to hear that you got your camera back!!!! And I adore any post that has to do with your Rexy. Regarding care of pets, I once read the ingredient list on Hubbell's food (Orijen Senior Dog) and I was blown away by how good it sounded and the variety of the ingredients. There's no question he ate better than I do!!! But he deserved all of that and more.

Yay to the camera, and randomness and a really good blog! ;) And yes, we do love our little creatures. On the eating healthy, I just made a big commitment on that end. Keeping fingers crossed I keep at it.

I really like doing Hello Monday, Glue it Tuesday, Look Up//Look Down (Weds.), and Paint Party Friday. I don't hit all four of those every week, but they give me a solid framework. Toss it a few scavenger hunt posts, simple moment, tea with Abi, Storytelling Sunday, 5 in 5, and Photo-Heart connection and my month is pretty filled!
I might do a poll soon to see what people like/don't like of this grouping. But it really works for me.

I love your blog, whatever you do! And your food posts are always yummy! When we had a turtle as kids I remember his favorite food was raw hamburger.

Oh, and how wonderful that your camera is back!

I think you should call your Wednesday posts "Turtle Salad."
Back to review this post again for something I'm writing.

I love reading your posts whether they're random or not. Hmmm, I'm thinking Rexy and Casper eat better than I do at lunch time. I need to fix that. :)
Glad to hear you got your camera back!
