For the past four years I have participated in a meme called "one little word." You select a word that you want to focus on for the year - a word that represents something you want to strive for. I've had chill, joy, and think as words in the past. And for 2012, my word was butterfly.
I chose butterfly because it represented where I was in my life. At the time I felt like I was wrapped in a cocoon and on the verge of squeezing out of some {self-imposed} restrictions. I was ready to spread my wings and soar!
Well, I did just that in 2012. But you know, it wasn't exactly how I expected it to be. My cocoon-to-butterfly theory had more to do with stepping up and helping my mom be free, having wings to wrap around my family during some really sad times, and then flitting about, from flower to flower, never really feeling like I had solid ground to land on and just be still for a while.
I've been seeing a lot of posts written by my sweet blog friends. They've chosen really great words, with deep meaning and purpose. They've written specific ideas for how they will document those words and live by them in the course of this next year. They'll scrapbook them, blog hop them, and grow from them.
Maybe I'm still reeling from the loss of my mom. Maybe I'm planning too many {super} fun things in my head for the upcoming year. Maybe I'm going against what's popular and declaring that I'm not going to pick one-little-word this year.
Maybe I'll just chill like I did in 2009.
But I'll be chillin' with some great big colorful butterfly wings.
I think I'll be happy that way.

I think it's a perfect year for you to chill and I know those butterfly wings will serve all of us well.
I think "chill" will be good for you to use every year. ;)
LOVE the quilt - Pres is going to love it too!
I think it will be perfect for you to chill as well.....and that quilt is looking gorgeous.
your quilt is beautiful and maybe the original butterfly ideas will permeate 2013 too
Sounds good to me! Loving the quilt - won't be long till you're finished :) xx
After what you went through last year, a year to just chill, rest, relax, rejuvenate may be just what the doctor ordered! I played for a moment on thesaurus.com and kind of like "interlude" for you!
Was a great word then and still a great word now. Loving your quilt.
Chilling under that beautiful quilt sounds perfect to me!
I love how you articulated what your butterfly wings did for you this year - it is amazing. And I think repeating a word is not bad - it might be great, since it is the word that you feel is right - have a grand year, and thanks for the inspiration.
I think chilling is the right thing to do at the moment. Especially a little bit of chilling in the UK!
I think that is the perfect thing for you to do this year. The quilt is really looking good!
Doesn't seem a cop out to me, my friend....happy chilling!!
Alison xx
Deb, my lovely - I hope you know that whatever you decide to do is the right answer :) Your quilt is *stunning* by the way! xx
Maybe you just needed 2012 to come to an end so you could bust out of that cocoon. I think this year is going to be your year. New adventures, new ideas, new projects, and always, always, people around you who love you. Spread your wings Deb. And yeah, go ahead and chill.
I love this idea of choosing a word and focusing on it for the year! Such a great idea Deb!
What a terrific quilt! I think it's nice to use a mosaic of all your past words to represent the year.

That is a beautiful quilt. I think it will be a great year for you to chill with some butterfly wings :)
I came very close to not choosing a word, either. I don't think it really matters. Some years I'm guided by the choice and others not so much. Chill seems like a perfect way to spend the year.
many of my friends too have participated in this in years past...I think I chose one word maybe 2 years ago and never stuck with it. This year, everyone's asking me for my OLW again and I'm still drawing a blank-after reading your post, I feel ok with it!!1 Sometimes the timing is just not right, ya know??!!
