What's in an Instagram

for Rinda

I know, I talk about it a lot. I use it a lot. I love it a lot.
Wanna' see why?

Ok, if you aren't familiar with what Instagram is all about, I thought it would be fun for you to see what I've been doing with it. It's pretty basic really - you take a picture with your phone, pull that picture into Instagram, crop it, choose a filter, and share it. Other Instagram'ers can see your photo, like it, and comment on it.

All of the photos in this post were taken with my iPhone. The photos on the left are before, right side after editing in Instagram.

Really cool, huh? I confess to trying every filter available on most shots before I settle on the one I think looks best. You can see how much it changes the look and feel of the original shot.

One little tip I would offer for Instagram is to bring it in close. When I pull a photo in and crop it I go super close, then work my way out until I have what I want in the frame. This next shot was also edited with PicFx to get the bokeh in the mix.

Super cool, right?
How about you? Are you using any photo editing tools on your phone?
If you have Instagram on your phone look me up!
I'm PaperTurtle.

You know I think you are the instagram queen! I've been wondering - is there a way to use the filters etc without actually having to share pictures? I love the look, but I'm not sure I want to get into another whole social network thing. (THough never say never..)

The filters you're using are really effective!

Yes, there is a way to use Instagram without posting photos to the main feed. I just put my phone in "airplane mode" and edit the photo, "share" it (which saves it to my phone) then delete it from Instagram before I take my phone off airplane mode. :o)

These are fabulous! Sian, I turned off the share option in Instagram. Then you can use the filters and not worry about where they go.

I, too, love playing with the filters on Instagram and I am so glad I asked you how you did the cool effects on the last sunflower photo. Thanks for the lead to PicFx...I am having a great time with that! Most of my photos end up not looking like photos at all, but that what I'm all about, haha, "manipulation"! Your sunflower pics have been sooooo amazing! I have loved each one! So glad you share!

I've had Instagram for a while - used it loads at the start but just haven't used it recently. Think I might have to try again, although I am a bit into Diptic at the moment!
