Her favorite color was red.

My grandma Bessie was different, and in hindsight that might be the reason I felt such a bond with her. She was a bit eclectic, maybe a little on the wacky side, and even a bit rebellious when compared to her straight-laced-sisters.

I once asked my grandma what her favorite color was. "Red" was her immediate response. I remember thinking at the time how odd that was - I thought everyone's favorite color was blue. No one would ever admit to red being their favorite color. And somehow, my young teenage self thought that it was, in a way, inappropriate to admit to loving the color red. But that was Grandma Bessie. I told you, she was different.

When asked "What's your favorite color," what do you say? I have a tough time with that question. I think it's safe to say that I love them all, but when pressed to choose just one, I'd still be inclined to say blue.

However, I've come to realize that my favorite color is...well...RED. I notice that this color shows up a lot in my photography, in my home decor, my wardrobe, and on my blog. :o)

My grandma Bessie loved me in a way that no one else ever will. I was her first-born grandchild, and she thought I was perfect. Not that I was or am, but in her eyes there was nothing about me that was anything less than perfect. I'm quite certain that she is smiling down on me as I type this blog post, more proud of me than she's ever been.

Our favorite color is red.

This post made me so happy Deb! To know that you were loved by such a special soul goes a long way to explain why you turned out to be the super person you are!

Oh what a lovely memory of your Grandma Bessie - I love red too so energetic and fun. However, it does depend as I love lots of different colours in different places so my answer always is a question asking what the colour is for? Great story.

I'd be hard pressed to choose a favourite colour as well.....but I do wear a lot of red. Your grandma sounds the perfect grandma....and I bet she is smiling down on you.

Red has been my favorite color ever since I was a little girl. When I was in third grade we moved in with my great aunt. I got to choose a quilt for my bed, and it was red & white. I still have it, though it's too worn to use any more. I loved your story!

What a lovely story. Red rocks! Although purple just edges in as my favourite. I love that photo of you with the umbrella.

My favourite colour is blue, but whenever I do wear red someone always says, oh, red suits you, so I do try to buy it, but often than not I don't :)

Embrace it and Happy New Year :)

My Granddaddy and I shared a love of red in a world of blue lovers. When asked now I have to say blues and greens and oranges :)

I bet she is too, Deb! And she wouldn't even be biased - you're pretty darn fabulous! Happy Happy New Year friend!

Aw.... so now you have admitted it in writing, will you change the answer to that question?
"What's your favourite color, Deb?" - Go on, say it... say "It's Red!"
Love this little story. It's wonderful to have great memories of a special relative or friend from your childhood - someone with whom you share(d) a special bond. Grandma Bessie sounds great. How good that you were able to know her - and how good of you to share her with us.

My favourite color? It's yellow (mostly... but I also love green, orange and all those deep, jewel-like shades of color, like amethyst, rich purple, garnet, turquoise, aquamarine, amber....) Perhaps I should just answer, "My favourite color is Rainbow"!

I love a lot of colors. My favorites are in the blue/green/teal family. But I also love and wear red. It's my kitchen color. Red has power. And let's face it, us blondes look great in red!

Wishing you all the best in 2012.
