Anybody want a cat?

So, just for the heck of it, I put up this little tree in our kitchen.

{pause}
Oh, isn't that cute/nice/fun....
Yeah.

We heard the sound at 4:15 a.m.

Fancy Jane is my favorite cat right now.
She would never do something like this.
And Whiskers won't do it again...

Don't even think about messing with me right now, Whiskers Jay.
Bad kitty!
{ him anyway}

PS: Thanks to Doug who immediately went for the broom, but understood when I asked him to leave it until the sun was up so I could get some photos. Good hubby!

PSS: Thanks to Sian for encouraging us to tell stories! Her Storytelling Sundays have been a true inspiration this past year. I'm linking to her today!  Good friend!

Haha, love the story and love more that you made your husband wait. Whata good scrappy husband. Do you know if there are anymore out there...husbands I mean :)

Thinking like a true blogger. Hopefully it scared the cat enough to hide for awhile.

What a devil of a kitty .. especially since it was looking so lovely! Thank goodness Doug had the good scrappers sense to leave the clean up until daylight, the pics, though distressing for you I am sure, add great drama to this story!

Oh my! Gorgeous photo to start - love the Santa hat and centerpiece. I think it's wonderful that so many people are sharing Christmas stories this month.

Oh, these photos bring back memories of growing up with cats in the house! I remember Daddy anchoring the tree so the cats could climb in it and it wouldn't fall over!!

A very Merry Christmas to you Deb!

excuse me, but you have no proof that Whiskers is the guilty party!!!! ;)

Oh too funny! Naughty Whiskers! I hope he didn't eat any of those baubles - better try unbreakable ones next time?

love that Doug didn't even question waiting until light to clean up (after a few photos!)

Oh what a shame Deb but what a good thing to be able to blog about. Just think if naughty Whiskers hadn't performed for you, maybe you wouldn't have had a story to tell. I believe he knew you were struggling to find a story and decided to help out. :)

Cats and Christmas trees ... perhaps WJ was helping out with a spot of writer's block? Good of Doug to indulge your "don't-sweep-up-now-wait-till-I've-taken-a-photo-or-two"! He's a keeper!

I bet Whiskers thought the fun was worth the telling off!!!

Brilliant, I would never have thought to leave it for a photo! Your story has reminded me of a very similar Christmas 'tail' involving quality street and a cat called dilly. I'll save it for my journal. Thank you Deb and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Oh what a shame, your naughty cat! Only a scrapbooker/blogger would wait till getting photos first before doing the cleaning up!

I love the solution! Does it work? we'll want updates on how kitty copes with a nail and some string.

Great photos! The one with the Santa hat looks fit to grace the pages of any magazine. And of course the true story here is your grace and good humour in any tricky situation. I think it has been an inspiration to us all this year. Have a peaceful, memorable Christmas!

Oh I remember our Christmas tree at home being elevated on a small table just about the time our kitty came to live with us. Thanks for sparking that memory.

I do like Karen's theory that the cat knew you were looking for a story and decided to help - I think we know better though!
My daughter loves everything about Christmas and I suspect that this first year in her own house she will go into glitter overload. I'm wondering how long her tree will last with that mischievous puppy of hers!

LOL - a true scrapbooker's husband there!

Oh, naughty cat! I love it that you asked Doug to wait to clear up until you could take photos! Merry Christmas to you all x

Oh gosh! Ha ha, this is beautifully photographed and told but what naughty cats! xx

what a great story to capture in photos! Your house is like a show home so clean and no clutter or dust anywhere I am slightly jealous!

The tree was lovely Deb. I got a chuckle out of you asking Doug to wait till you got a picture of the damage. Poor kitten more than likely scared himself when the decorations broke. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Great story, I love that you waited for the sun to appear before sweeping the debris up :)

I'm sure Whiskers meant no harm - I mean... all those baubles... so tempting. Hopefully your solution will end that problem.

Yay for Blogger's husbands!! Hope you had some extra ornaments for the tree

Fancy Jane and Whiskers would make terrible cat burglars cause they make too much noice. Gotta luv them.

Having had cats all my life and watching my dad put up Christmas trees "wired" to a plant hook or nail in the ceiling, I have carried on the tradition of "tying up" my Christmas tree... and have taught my husband how best to do it as well. Our tree is always tethered to something, although these days the cats eat the tree more than try to climb it or mess with the ornaments. They're getting old...

I love that you made your husband wait to clean it up so you could get pictures! This store made me laugh. We have two cats (who used to stay indoors), and they were a nightmare their first Christmas.
We love to hear my Mom tell the story about the cat they had when she was little who climbed up into their large Christmas tree and knocked the whole thing over. She said my Grandfather was fit to be tied :)

Talk about turning lemons into lemonade--well done, darling daughter! Love this story! xo
