I love bubbles! I take them camping, picnic-ing, concert going...
I love them.
So when saw this cute idea for bubble wands,
I went straight to my bead stash and whipped up a few...
Ooooh! I was so excited the whole time I was stringing these beads and twisting this wire. I didn't even stop to take photos of the process, thinking to myself, "If these work like I think they will...this is going to be a great blog post!" eh-hm. Nope.
I had some bubble solution on hand that I tried first, but the bubble wands did not work...at all. I don't know if the bubble solution wasn't thick enough, or if the wire on the wand was just too thin. I ended up trying dish washing soap and did get a few bubbles {FINALLY! A photo of bubbles coming out of the wand...} but still not enough to want to rush back to the craft room and make beaded bubble wands for all my friends. ~sigh~

So, now I'm on a mission to find an awesome bubble recipe.

sharing yoru excitment at the idea - what a shame they didn't work.
They look so cute....shame they didn't work well....I always use the cheapest washing up liquid possible for bubbles....I think it doesn't contain any of the fancy ingredients that might stop the bubbles working properly.
Love the pretty wands and think I can remember adding glycerin to the bubble mixture to give it some strength.

How cute! and disappointing :( Way back when I taught preschool we had a recipe but there's no way I remember it, I do know it contained glycerin like Karen mentioned. Good luck on bubbles and congrats on Pass the Book ;)
the turtle bubble wand blower is just too cute! Maybe find a ring you can attach the thinner wire to? Adorable anyway!
Really cute, and I'm also perplexed as to why they didn't work. I wonder if you left just wire all the way around the ring and for the first little bit that would help (thinking the beads break the surface tension, maybe?).
I also wonder if you might need to wash the beads and wire first, in case there's some coating which interferes with and breaks down the soap when it comes in contact with the bubble solution.
I remember that Dawn was the BEST dish soap for kids crafts (I took a class in them when my kids were little).

I think they are utterly gorgeous but am of no help with a solution. But, having just had a look at a couple of wands we have here ... the plastic ones are a lot thicker, perhaps that has something to do with it?

I love them. I have a bubble recipe saved that I will look for in a bit. Alex loves bubbles and all the wands we have are not smooth. Not sure if that has something to do with it.

Those are some good looking fancy bubble wands :)
I tried making them as well, with no success... BUT then fixed them!! I wrapped much thinner wire around and around and around...the bubble blowing part!! Work perfectly now :) Much like the plastic wands that have all the ridges to hold the soap.
