Furry Friend Challenge ~ for The Scrappy Tree

When I saw this challenge over at The Scrappy Tree blog, I knew I wanted to participate. You see, all three of the animals in my life are rescued furry friends and I'm a firm believer in supporting those fuzzies who need us most. The challenge is to come up with a layout or some other art that highlights a furry friend, and I chose our sweet Fancy Jane.
Back in 2002, Carrie and I were preparing to adopt a kitten so we headed to our local pet store to purchase supplies that we would need. As luck {or fate} would have it, that particular pet store was hosting an adoption day and there were cages filled with adult cats that needed homes. Now, the few cats I've had in my life came to me as kittens, and the idea of adopting an adult cat had never appealed to me. But then we saw Fancy and everything changed.
.

We approached her cage and I put my hand inside to pet her. She rubbed against my hand as if to say, "hello, friend" and it was all over. Carrie and I looked at each other and in an instant we knew that Fancy would be coming home with us. There was no second-guessing, no typical mom-and-daughter-bantering, it just was the right thing to do. Forget the kitten, we were welcoming a five year old cat into our home - one whose previous owner had to give her up due to health reasons.
.

The name she came with was perfect, she definitely was a fancy cat, but in true Deb & Carrie fashion we added her middle name: Jane.
.
Over the past 8 years Fancy has been a constant source of love and affection. I can't imagine a better pet, and I'm so thankful that Carrie and I happened upon the adoption day at our local pet store.
.

The challenge over at The Scrappy Tree runs through
January 29th if you'd like to participate too.

Fancy Cat ~ January 10, 2011 ~ Project 365

PS: Book is made using 6x6" pieces of chipboard with paper and photos glued with a glue stick. The front cover is a 6x6" piece of clear acrylic, edged with acrylic paint. Paper is by Doodlebug, and the shapes for this book were all cut using my Cricut. And, it's an overcast day today so my photos are a little on the dark side.

I love serendipity - you were ready for a cat, and the Universe took you to where you needed to be to find the right one!

Is Fancy a ragdoll? Her coloring is gorgeous, she has the "eyeliner" markings, and her head shape is so similar to our Ashley (see my Picture Winter 8 post on my blog: http://cheriandrews.blogspot.com/2011/01/picture-winter-8.html )

just curious!

What a great post. I have rescued and fostered many pets(including a litter of 2 week old kittens) over my lifetime. It's a lot of work but definitely worth it in the end. Your Fancy Jane is beautiful. How lucky you both were to find each other.

I read your comment and checked on my son's blog because he follows and my posts the new ones aren't showing up on his reader list or Google reader either. The last post that shows up is from over a week ago. I don't know what's causing it or how to fix it. I went to help which wasn't any at all because I can't find a way to ask Google directly. You have to look through the forum and it did no good. Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

What a great mini-book! You have such great pix of your kitty. We got our kitty at the "Feed & Fuel," because they had a litter of barn kittens. She's a little wild, but we love her to pieces.

Howdy! It's weird that when I came back to my dashboard tonight all of my blogs were shown on the reader then I found your comment. I checked what you suggested and all are set on "yes". I thought "great it's working!" so I made a new post about chivalry and checked my dashboard and darn if it didn't show up so I'm back to having no clue. I did post on the forum and hope someone has an idea.

I was happy to see my other friend's comment that she was taking the shopping bag challenge. I also have an order from my sister for bags. You should feel good that your post inspired so many to make a change. The turtles thank you and so do we! You rock!

Following an unfortunate incident when I was attacked by a wild cat and ended up in A&E with a savaged leg - I'm afraid to say I'm not too keen on felines. But even I have to admit that fancy is a really pretty cat!
It definitely was fate that sent you along to that petshop on that particular day.

She is beautiful - and she has THE most perfect name for a cat I have heard in a long time :)

Sometimes, things happen just they way they're supposed to, don't they? Glad you all found each other. Great post, as always Deb!

Jane is so Beautiful, I love that pic of her curled up in a basket :)
We also adopted a kitten 4 years ago, but were sad to see all those adult cats in cages waiting to find a home, our next cat will definitely be an adult cat, kittens are the cutest and it is so entertaining to watch them in there curiosity phase, but they have more possibilities to be adopted.
Your album is Very Pretty and "Fancy" ;) Thank you for participating in TST challenge and for promoting our Charity event on your blog :) :) :)

Our husbands have even more in common than you know. My husband is the second of five boys from a military family.

My posts have all popped up since last evening on reader. The one I just did for my photo blog about our musical family with a picture of my husband's guitars showed up right away. Maybe there is a glitch in Blogger right now and I'm one of the lucky ones to be affected.

Have a great day!

Oh what a warm fuzzy story. Thank you for sharing it. I so miss having a kitty but DH has low grade asthma and can't tolerate cats : (
Have a lovely day and your layout designs are wonderful
