Sewing Kit in a Jar

During my 49 years on this planet I have collected my share of sewing notions and supplies. I remember the Christmas when I was 9 years old, Santa brought me a sewing basket filled with notions such as pins and needles and a measuring tape. I'm sure some of the supplies I received that year are still part of my current collection.
.
This past year I discovered that my girl C, and our friend, Janae were lacking in some basic sewing supplies. Janae needed pins {I thought so anyway...} and Carrie needed needles in the worst way. I had seen this idea before, but it wasn't until Carrie posted it on her blog in her Friday Favorites that it hit me! It was the perfect little Christmas gift for both of them!
.
~ teal for Janae ~ pink for Carrie ~
.
The top is a pin cushion and inside I put the following: a spool of quilting thread {heavy duty for hand sewn projects}, a box of pins, package of needles, some safety pins, a measuring tape, and a Scrabble tile with their initial {I know, random, but it needed a little something else}.
.
It made me happy to add to their collection of sewing notions, and I can't wait to see what they will create with these tools!

Sew cute! I'm going to be on the lookout for some little jars like that because you have reminded me how much I treasure a little sewing kit my sister made for me just after I got married.

It's a lovely present! I was sent a jar with pin-cushion top, filled with beads, also a lovely box that is covered in fabric. When you lift off the lid, the box sides open like flaps, revealing a smaller set of box-flaps inside. Each flap has some kind of sewing supplies attached to it with elastic straps. When you've finished, you fold it back up into a box and put the lid back on. It's so pretty - I must photograph it for a blog post! I'm sure you could make those too Deb - you are so clever at such things.
I really like your sewing jars - and they're "real" glass jars too - mine is plastic. I'm sure your friend and C. were so happy to receive such lovely gifts.

What a great idea ~ they both look fab! And I think the scrabble letter initial was inspired. x

What a great idea, did you make the pincushion on top too? I don't think you can ever have enough pins or needles - I know I certainly need to get some long thin pins again soon! I love all these cute ideas you have! :) xx

What a great present. You know, Deb, my mom used to give us handmade presents for Christmas, and I treasure each one. Yours really remind me of hers in such a sweet way! She made me a pin cushion one year with a painted ceramic doll head that I still have. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

I saw jars like these on sew many ways during November, and have been on the hunt for jars ever since. Your fabrics are gorgeous!

What a fantastic idea!
Think I'm going to be hitting the shops looking for a suitable jar to do a 'scraplift' on this!

Great gift idea. I'm going to remember this. But I have a challenge for you: What if you wanted to give it to a young girl, but you didn't quite trust her with a glass jar. What would you use?

Well, dear Margaret, I suppose if I'm trusting a young girl with pins and needles and such, I'd trust that she'd be ok with the glass jar. ;o)
