Out with the old, in with the new...

I'm big on putting holiday decorations away as soon as the holiday is over - love to decorate before and during, but am usually tired of looking at the stuff by the time the holiday gets here and is done. This year, a friend from work had cut this cat shape for Halloween that I thought was just adorable. I brought it home, taped it to our patio door and left it there well into November.

It was just too cute to put away so soon. I loved that if you caught a glimpse out of the corner of your eye it looked like the silhouette of an animal standing outside the door.

As Doug and I sat outside on the patio one evening, looking into our family room we saw our cats lined up - kind of a blurry photo but I thought it was cute anyway. {And yes, that is a dead animal on our wall - Eddie the Elk.}

Now, the cat silhouette is put away and we are desperately trying to find the gratitude banner I made last year for Thanksgiving. I suspect it got put into a box with Christmas decorations but won't know until Doug pulls them out of the attic this afternoon. Once found, the banner will hang on our fireplace until Friday - the day after Thanksgiving - when it will be replaced by Christmas decorations.

What about you? Do you put decorations away as soon as the holiday is over? Or do you leave them out well past the day?

I just LOVE that shot of all the cats! We're a family that outs up Christmas decorations about a week before, although the wreath goes on the front door on the 1st Sunday of Advent. Everything comes down as soon after New Year as possible!

The cat is adorable! The mount (in the background) is a good looking elk! :-)

We usually only decorate for xmas....mid December....though DD2 would put them up much sooner if given the chance....and they come down early January....though I am sad when they come down....it always looks so bare!!
Love the cat.

I usually get tired of them soon after, but I always leave Christmas up until the Epiphany. And then of course, with last year's roof leak, I barely had a chance to get tired of Christmas! Hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Love the cat! Christmas is the only holiday we decorate for. They usually go up the 1st or 2nd weekend of December and stay up until Epiphany. It's funny that I'm tired of them by then but sad to put them away.

In our house Christmas decorations go up the weekend closest to my husband's birthday (12th) and they are down a few days after New Year's Day. And always before 12th Night! I love it when they go up and I love them all through Christmas, but I am ready for them to come down by the beginning of January!

I usually take the Christmas decor down on Jan. 1 and don't decorate until after turkey day. We get a real tree, usually mid-December,

Love the black cats.
We put our decorations up on the first Sunday in December and take them down on 12th night. By that time I am fed up with all the bits and pieces everywhere and just want rid of them so that I can dust properly.

I love the silhouette, how cute? I am terrible at putting away decorations on time, I think secretly I am in denial that the holiday is over! :)

Well, we don't do Thanksgiving here in the UK and I must admit to being a bit on the 'boring' side when it comes to decorations. I'm quite traditional and I hate that it seems to be Christmas so early each year - I put my decorations up no more than a week beforehand but I always make a big deal out of it. Tunes, wine and singing....

What a great cat silhouette! Fall decorations come down on Friday after Thanksgiving here and Christmas decorations go up that day and stay until the week after New Year's.

What do the kitties think of the ring-in?
We are very like Ruth when it comes to decorating - and we don't seasonally decorate apart from Christmas.

I decorate for fall in early October and leave it up until after Thanksgiving. I have a few specific Halloween decorations, but some years I never bring them out. We decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving, and they stay up until the weekend after New Year's. Love those cat silhouettes. They look great from inside and out!

What a great cat shape - no wonder you wanted to leave it up! We still ahve a clay pumpkin sitting out because it was full of nuts and they aren't finished yet; and my husband wanted to leave the Halloween lights up because they lit the hall up so well!

The photo of the cats is great! Our Christmas decs normally go up two weekends before Christmas, but this year it will be earlier as we will be having visitors and I like to have the house decorated. However, I hate having them up after Christmas and they come down on New Year's Day! I would like to take them down on the 27th (26th being Boxing Day here) but the family call me Scrooge and won't let me!
