Basil ~ the homegrown kind. :o)

My sweet little basil plant has grown from 2" to about 12" since my friend gave it to me a couple of months ago. I water it every day - have to in this Arizona heat - and I'm about ready to pull a few leaves off and use them!

It's a fun {and functional} little plant that I like because it was a simple gift from a friend {my boss, the Chiro}, along with the little plastic "basil" sign stuck into the side of it.

The day he brought it to work for me, my co-worker Sam told me that she sticks her vegetable labels on the Terra cotta pot she has like this. {You know? Those annoying little stickers they put on every tomato and peach that you buy these days?} It sounded like such a cute idea that I immediately started doing the same.

I've already given the pot a coat of modge podge, and will do the same a few more times in the process of covering the entire pot with stickers.

It's just the kind of quirky, whimsical thing that I love.

When Doug saw this he told me that his mom used to let them put these stickers under a certain cabinet in her kitchen -- hidden from sight but tucked away as a funny little collection.
.
So, what do you do with your stickers?
Surely you won't throw them away now...
:o)

Mmmm, basil :-) I can't grow anything, me.....

We don't get quite so many of the little stickers over here but when I do get one I fold it and pretend I'm doing miniature origami! (And then I throw it away. Sorry x)

Fraid I throw mine away as well...sorry I mean I recycle them...... but they do look cute on the pot...better than in the recycle bin.

I'm a peeler and a folder too! I tend to fold them in half and then half again etc until they can't be folded any more. We don't get too many of them on our fruit and veggies here though.
I have a little herb part of the garden here and grow rosemary, chives, mint and parsley. Nothing like popping into the garden and picking your own produce. One little advantage of the British summer, we don't have the Arizona heat to scorch our plants!

The kids stick them all over themselves - they look quite funny some days!

So jealous that you have enough heat to grow basil - it's too cool here on our coast.
My dear friend Molly used to have a play table set up in the kids room where they were allowed to stick all the stickers they wanted to, and I followed suit.
don't do anything with the produce stickers, but I do find the practice appalling! When DD was about 4 and drew and apple for a school project, she actually drew it with a sticker on it! That just seemed so wrong.

I like the idea of putting the stickers on the pot..my daughter usually sticks them to her forehead to try to make me laugh :)

such a sweet story Deb! I am awful at growing plants. I'm hoping this may improve over time...possibly! We don't really get many stickers like that. If we do me and my brothers try adn stick them on each others back without them noticing! Good childish dun! Abi xx

Gosh those stickers look cute on the pot. I never thought to do that! Our basil plant is flourishing too so I'm dreaming about pesto. Have you decided what you'll make?
