Memories from our weekend

Hey there, blog friends.
How was your weekend? Ours was awesome. Ohmygosh I love this time of year in Arizona. Our weather was so perfect and we got to spend some time outside which is always good for my soul. Come on in, I'll show you...

Doug had to work Friday evening so I was on my own. I came home from work, poured myself a glass of wine, and planted myself in a chair on our patio. I sat there, decompressing from a ridiculous week and enjoying the scenery of our backyard space. Our new lemon tree (shown above) has blossom buds that will be bursting soon, and Doug has all of the brick border done and grass seed spread!

We had additional concrete poured to extend our patio slab, and I am so excited about the corner flower space we had created, shown in the photo above. By this time next week I plan to have flowers in that little pocket! :o)

And speaking of concrete, I have always been a little envious every time I've seen initials carved in cement. When we had ours poured a few weeks ago, I came home from work on my lunch hour and the timing was right for carving into the cement before it was set. Doug and I have the same initials, so "DJAx2," and the heart shape is a combination of our thumbprints - Doug's on one side, mine on the other. Awww... (Doug is such a good sport.)

Saturday was a super fun day. I taught restorative yoga in the morning then did some grocery shopping afterwards. Came home and baked two batches of cornbread to take along to a chili cook off we were invited to later that day. There were so many fun parts to Saturday evening!

The party was held on the west side of town - about a 45 minute drive from our house - so we had a mini-road trip and we traveled with Carrie and Andrew. The weather was perfect for a outdoor event so that made it really nice. The party was hosted by some friends of my brother's, and one of our cousins was in town from California so she and her husband were there too. The food was yummy and Andrew's chili totally should have won! And the super fun part is that my brother's band was the entertainment...

"Front Porch Reunion" is the name of their band and they were awesome! My baby brother, Tim, is on the left wearing black. So proud! It was such a fun night with family and friends. ♥ ♥

Sunday was its own form of fun in a totally laid back, close to home fashion. Doug met his dad for breakfast, and I stayed home to take care of things around the house. At noon I headed over to my sister-in-law Janet's house for a jewelry party, and we also threw in a birthday celebration for our SIL Laurie whose birthday is today ~ February 29th. Since she's a leap-year baby this is technically her 14th birthday, and I love that Janet commemorated that with birthday candles.

It was a fun way to spend the afternoon - with my SILs and a few lady friends and purchasing jewelry that I don't need but am pretty excited about having.

I was determined to have some relaxation time this weekend and I'm happy to report that I owned it. I enjoyed some time on my yoga mat yesterday, and also a good chunk of time outside soaking up a little sunshine and sort-of-fresh air (accounting for the fertilizer that's covering our grass seed at the moment). There's also the sweet smell of orange blossoms in the air - two very contrasting aromas.

And now there's a new week on the horizon with all sorts of possibilities for finding stuff to be grateful for. That's my focus this week - gratitude. I teach yoga classes for our local parks and recreation department, and the new session starts this week. My Tuesday night class is over-booked by two students, and there's a waiting list of others wanting to register. How fortunate I am to be able to share yoga with those students who are so willing to learn. I'm so very grateful for that.

Happy final day of February.
Happy birthday today to my leap-year SIL, Laurie!
Happy weekend memories.
Happy new week.
Happy me.

It's so good to see that back garden take shape - of course that Arizona sunshine must help speed up the growing process. Won't be long until you are squeezing that first lemon into a cooling gin and tonic ;-)

WOW what changes are taking place in your back garden. I really like your imprint into the cement, especially the thumbprint heart! Your entire weekend sounds like a made to order time. I have such a fondness for jewelry - I believe women should be adorned & adored. Happy week ahead.

How cool that you and Doug have the same initials. One of my best friends and I share the same initials along with several other little facts---both our SIL's are named Adam, we share the same date for our anniversaries, and our first names are the same.

Lovely to read how successful your classes are and that you are enjoying them. Your patio looks lovely and when there are flowers tumbling over the edges, it will be such a nice place to sit. Envying you the climate. We had eight inches of snow here yesterday!
