Mom's hoop, my mandala

I was putting away some fabric scraps recently and came across an empty embroidery hoop among some things that once belonged to my mom. My mind's eye sees any circle shape as a mandala these days, and I had an idea to create a stitched piece for my growing mandala collection.

I gathered a few basic supplies and assembled a little sewing kit for the road trip that Carrie and I took to California last week. I joked during our trip that I'm kind of like a toddler - need to have something to keep me entertained in the car or I get antsy. ;o)

I used my paper template to get things started...

And then just started adding other lines across, connecting the dots like I would if I were drawing with pen and paper.

This was so much fun to stitch, and it came together quickly. Next time I'll bring more fabric and a couple more hoops.

I plan to leave it in the hoop to display it in my craft space, and I'll print a photo of it to add to my mandala sketchbook as well.

Ah! I love mandalas!!!

If I'd have tried that in a moving car, I'd have stabbed myself several times! It looks very pretty.

It looks lovely,Deb. I'm afraid stitching in a car just makes me nauseous.

I think you may have created a new craft - it looks amazing and a lovely way to doodle with needle and thread

I Love your mandalas!
I have been having a go myself, however, I can't say they look very good - still look very wonky and uneven. I have copied your template idea and will keep trying! Carole
