Carrie's Quilt

I'm so happy about the completion of this quilt for so many reasons.

a) I actually made something that I pinned on Pinterest;
b) It was a super fun pattern to play with;
c) I loved using scraps from my stash and some from my mom's;
d) I finished it before Christmas; and
e) Carrie loves it! :o)

I needed a photo of the completed quilt before I wrapped it for Christmas, so Doug held it up for me. I fussed about the lighting and took several photos that day, and in the long run I just love the way the sun is shining through the quilt and that Doug's silhouette shows.

The only thing I would change about this quilt is the size. As I progress through my life's quilting lessons, I will now be able to visualize what 56"x 56" looks like. It's the perfect size for a lap quilt, and I think Carrie will keep this on her couch as a throw, but if I had it to do over again I would make it a little longer, that's all.

I used my sewing machine for everything but the binding which I hand stitched. And I washed and dried the quilt before I wrapped it because I love the look of a quilt that's been "worn."

Hooray for handmade!!!

My sister Marilyn is an avid quilter and we have all benefited from her genius. The most sentimental for me was made at great personal pain for her. When we cleaned out my Mom's closet, she took some of her favorite tops and made us all a lap quilt. I treasure it!

Thus is so beautiful ... I love the white space (some quilt designs feel visually very fussy to me) and the plops of colour. You have made something g of great value which will be cherished - hoorah indeed for handmade and for dedication and skill.
