When you see our Lucky for the first time you’ll no
doubt notice his eyes right away. The light blue color contrasts so starkly
against the dark fur on his face, it’s hard not to be drawn in.
They say that the eyes are a window to the soul and when I
look at Lucky’s eyes I often wonder what they’ve seen. He’s such a sweet and
loving little dog, and in those times of admiration for him I wonder who is
missing him.
His adoption papers estimated his age to be four years, and
I wonder who loved him during those years. Who house-trained him and taught him
to sit? Who else experienced his crazy high level of excitement over dog
treats? Who spoiled him into being a house dog and led him to believe he was a
lap dog that was allowed on furniture? And I really wish they’d taught him not
to dig while they were at it, but I digress.
He’s had to re-learn a few things since he came to be with
us, but it’s clear that he was previously loved by someone else. While we’re
away he seems content in his little backyard world, spending his time chasing
birds and butterflies, chewing on an elk antler, and on occasion digging a hole
half way to China. But when we are home, he wants nothing more than to be
inside with us. He loves being in our company!
Oh, sweet Lucky dog. You look at me with those light blue
eyes, your ears perked up and a smile on your little doggy face and the worries
of my day melt away. I wonder who’s missing you today, little dog.

He is such a gorgeous post and it is lovely that he was loved before you got him, I just did a post on my boy who was unloved until I got him but that's all changed now :) x
He is a lovely dog and I'm not a 'dog' person! However, if I had seen him I think I would have adopted him too!
It 's good to know he was loved before he came to you. Unfortunately our cat, Charlie seemed to have been badly treated before we got him from the Cat Protection centre and it's taken him a long time to trust the men in our house and he still runs away if you shake a plastic bag and he's in the room. Sad to think some people can mistreat animals like that. x
His eyes are indeed very , well, eye-catching; from there they look like a soft turquoise blue. I am not a 'doggy' person either, but he has such a sweet look!
Such a lovely post about such a wonderful friend. I love those eyes of his also.
What a lovely post. I don't think that either Aria or Gypsy came from loving homes. The rescue thought Gypsy was used as a breeder in a backyard puppy mill. Aria still has a skiddish/scared part of her (she was picked up as a stray). You know that Clara and I work at the humane society, and we see all kinds of stories of how dogs arrive there. We're both so happy when they go off to a new, furever home to be loved (like Lucky).

Lucky definately has amazing eyes....they always stand out in all your photos of him.....and he's lucky indeed to have had 2 loving homes.
I think the majority of dogs over here are 'house dogs'....I don't know anyone whose dogs don't live indoors.....Stella hates to even go outdoors when it's raining....she actually tiptoes in it!!
Oh Lucky's eyes!!! It's hard to imagine that somebody gave him up. But I am so glad he found you and you found him because now I get to see his lovely, sweet face too!!! And he always makes me smile. Hugs & Kisses to you, sweet Lucky!!!
Yes that pup of yours does indeed have amazing eyes and the most heart wrenching smile! He certainly is a very lucky boy.
I have never seen a dog with such a smiley face or such blue eyes. I dint know what his past was but I know he has a loving future with his new family!
It is sad to think someone would be missing Lucky but I think they'd be so grateful to know where he lives now and that he is so well cared for.
We found a dog roaming the street on the weekend and luckily enough, he was well tagged and we were able to contact the owners. As it turns out, Charlie dog was 10 months old and had already cost his owners $6000 ... needless to say, they were extremely grateful for our phone call.
For a moment, just a moment, there was a collective hope that he was our new dog ....
He is such a handsome dog who obviously likes to be photographed. He always looks happy.
What a fine-looking dog he is! I read a post like this and miss that we no longer have a pooch in our house. But we know we're gone far too often to justify having a pet at home.
I often wonder what my rescue greyhound's life was like before she landed on her feet in the lap of luxury when she found her forever home with me... lovely post and lovely little dog.
You always get such gorgeous animal photos...did I mention I am missing WJ?! ;)
So happy to know he was loved before you adopted him. How are Doug's fences working at keeping him out of some of the gardens?
