Road Trip Weekend Recap

Good Monday morning, blog friends.
You know that kind of Monday morning that holds all kinds of awesome weekend memories? The kind of Monday morning that you don't want to be here because you still want to be on Saturday morning time? That's my Monday morning.

This weekend saw Carrie and I taking a little road trip to California. It was a lot of driving for the weekend, but the road trip/car time is just part of the fun. We listened to music and podcasts, and snacked and talked and sang. It was awesome.

Carrie did most of the driving on the way over - she drove the car, and I drove her crazy. My sister saw this photo on Instagram and she called it - said I looked like I was having a great time, and that I was most likely on Carrie's last nerve. :o]

We left my house at 6:20 a.m. on Saturday headed to California. Carrie had heard about a place called Salvation Mountain so we headed there first. It was about a four hour drive {or more depending on the getting-kind-of-lost factor}, and that part of our trip deserves its very own blog post so I'll have more on that tomorrow.

Salvation Mountain was cool. It was funky, eclectic, and super hot out in the middle of the desert at high-noon. Again, more on that tomorrow.

Anyway, from there it was a three hour trek to get to our final destination: the beach!

We put our teal toes in the sand...

One of my favorite things during the weekend was sitting on a beach blanket watching the sun set with my girl. It was magical. ♥

Yesterday morning we enjoyed breakfast at the beach. We shared this breakfast burrito and I will tell you that it wasn't nearly as delicious as it looked.

After breakfast we took a long walk, and ended up out on this pier where we watched surfers for quite a while. We wondered why the surfers didn't catch waves that looked perfectly good to us, and we critiqued their skills. We laughed when Carrie made the observation that neither one of us knows one thing about surfing, yet we had all kinds of opinions about how it should be done.

We weren't ready to leave after we checked out of our hotel room, so we headed back down to the beach for just a little while longer. We got sand between our toes one more time, listened to a little music, and soaked up a bit more California sunshine.

And just like that, it's Monday morning and I'm rushing to post my weekend recap. The clock says I should have already done my yoga and be in the shower by now, but I'm blogging and downloading the photos Carrie emailed me. Time to focus, Deb...time to re-focus...

I'm off to make the most of the week ahead,
and I hope you will do the same.
Here's wishing each of you a lovely week.

I think we have this all back to front. We should have five day weekends and two days of work ;-)
Looks amazing, you certainly packed a lot into 48 hours.

The weekend may only be two days long but you certainly made the most of yours. It's funny, I thought I'd driven a long way on Saturday for a crafty meet up and that was only 90 minutes away! 7 hours? Rather you (and Carrie) than me!

I love the photo of the two of you in your sunglasses - and it sounds such a happy and magical weekend ... Envying you the time with your dear daughter. I miss mine so.

You know I'm a fan of the weekend road trip, and boy, I wish I could get to the ocean for a day or two! It looks fabulous! Too bad that burrito wasn't as good as it looks; one of my favorite breakfast items. We're off to Chicago this weekend. Can't wait to see my family, but there'll be no beach time.

I do have to laugh. Carrie does look a tad more relaxed in the second picture than in the first.
