Rexy Boy

We should have known that it would only be a matter of time before I came up with a nickname for our new turtle. Rex is now known as Rexy - or "Rexy-boy" when he's being really particularly cute. {For the record, Doug still calls him Rex.}

When Janae brought her 3-year-old-littles over, I quizzed them before they left my house. "What does the turtle eat?" They didn't remember. But when I asked, "What's the turtle's name?" Kiki sweetly replied, "Rexy!"  :o}

He's just so much fun to have around. He's clumsy and entertaining and...well...I totally dig him!
You would call him Rexy-boy too.
:o}

Okay, I have to admit he has the most personality of any turtle I have ever known ;) but I'll stick with Doug and call him "Rex"

I called The Children over to see these photos and now they want to take over the comment :) Here they are:

He is incredibly cute, but be careful or he will poo everywhere! Just as nice as the axolotl and the hamster, and with a similar rarity to the axolotl.

The boy has signed off.

Here's mine: (the tomboy)
Love him! HES SO CUTE! I HAVE to make an origami turtle, write a turtle-y poem with Rexy's name in it and a little message...for you, Debturtle! I am in a turtely mood!

You failed to mention in the post about the fact that you talk to him like he's a cat. I love Rexy and I love those pictures! :)

Haha - to Carrie: I thought about it, but thought that might make another good post, "How do you talk to a turtle?" ;o)

I would love him too. I would have about 12 nicknames for him, each one cuter and crazier than the last.

I certainly would, it's my go-to addition to any little boy!

He is just so cute. David came home the other day to say that when he was out for a walk he had seen a turtle in a pond - someone must have dumped him there when he had grown too big but he was happily sunning himself so was ok with his predicament. I love the special little green heart at the end of your post x

Deb, I was listening to a This American Life yesterday about pets…mostly they were talking about dogs and cats and there were lots of stories of cuddling….and it made me wonder about Rexy. I feel like people have a natural tendancy to want to hug things close…but I have a feeling Rexy wouldn't like that. I mean…I want to hug Rexy and I've only seen photos of him! :) So…do you hug him? How do you connect with him?

Ha! This is starting to sound like Turtle Relationship Analysis!

But tell me! tell me! How do you bond with Rexy?

Hi Deb! just catching up on my blog reading:) I have so enjoyed your photos and posts of Rexy! I have to tell you, every now and then when I go to Pet Smart - there is a gentleman there with his very Large turtle! I don't know what kind of turtle he is but boy does he move fast! I took photos of him once but they are a bit blurred. Apparently he takes the turtle for a walk outside regularly, but when it is cold, he comes to Pet Smart! Hope all is well with you :)
