Before, During and After: The Living Room

:o)

If you're a regular around these parts, you know that Doug and I purchased a house a few months ago that was a true diamond in the rough. Here's how things went down in the living room of said diamond...
♦ ♦ ♦

When I look at this picture now I think, "Eh, it didn't look that bad..." but trust me, it was bad. Maybe because I remember how dirty it was to begin with, and the sliding glass door that was broken and couldn't be easily opened and didn't have a working lock. And did I mention dirty?

The man. My man. This is what the room looked like within two hours of us getting our keys!

A few days later:  walls and ceiling retextured and painted, old light fixtures removed, new base boards...

A few weeks later: new ceiling fan/light fixtures, replaced the broken sliding door with French doors {my BIL Don did the install}, stuff starting to land in place...

The floor in this room doesn't look too bad in these photos, but it does have some flaws. To date we haven't done anything other than clean it, but we will eventually replace it with new flooring...someday...
Still a few decorating issues to address, but we do love it.
Cool, eh?

November Attitude of Gratitude: Where do I even begin with this one?
* I'm so grateful that I have a husband who knows how to fix/repair/replace stuff!
* I'm grateful that he fixes it and then lets me have creative license for where to put stuff.
* Even though we seriously downsized, this place is definitely us!

the Man is awesome! Isn't it amazing what fresh paint, new baseboards and a new door can do for a room?

Love the old Singer treadle! We had one in our living room growing up. I think my sister snagged it.

Oh yes, The Man certainly did do good! It is a lovely room, Deb - the new ceiling and windows have made such a difference. I love that you have kept the paint light and soft in colour - it seems like a large, light and cheery room. A lovely place to curl up and be cosy.
I have Treadle-Table Envy!

I feel like I just watch a segment on HGTV! What a transformation! The remodeling/decorating talent between the man and yourself needs to be packaged and sold!! Love you! xo

Grateful for:
1. Days that I feel so good I forget I have cancer--like yesterday!
2. A new doctor, a new hope!

My dad is that kind of man so it was imperative that I marry that kind of man and the Chosen One meets the expectations exceedingly. The transformation is great. Received my Team Teal bracelet yesterday and am wearing it as I type. Lifted a praise when I saw in Marti's comment that yesterday was a good day!

Looks amazing - as another married to a man who can fix things and then let me loose decorating, isn't it fun?

Wow! What a wonderful transformation. I am lucky enough to be married to a 'man who can' too!

Thank goodness for handy blokes ... we had a big storm here last night and my Handy Bloke was out in it making sure we were all safe and sound and looking after tanks and drains etc ... me, well, I just shrugged my shoulders and thought that the rain did look heavy but had no clue what to do!

Deb, the house is coming along great! I love all the touches you have put in. We are actually getting ready to move soon too. Does Doug know anyone that refinishes (actually paints) cabinets? We are looking to hire someone if we end up getting the house we are hoping for or even another. Thanks, keep blogging I love reading it. I especially enjoyed what you just wrote about Carrie's grandmother's journal. It is actually what drives me to scrapbook- the thought that it may mean something to someone down the road..

It pays to have a vision when you purchase a house that needs a lot of work. We've done three now, and this is hopefully, the last. The end result is truly lovely. It must be so gratifying to relax in there and know what you've accomplished.

Oh Deb, it looks super. Doug really did good. Wish we could get rid of those ceilings but oh the thought of moving all the furniture to do it. :) I remember my Mum having one of those treadle sewing machines. What I wouldn't give to have it now - have no idea what happened to it.

Extremely Nice! :) loving how you decorated the room, especially the sewing machine. Have you tried Scott's Gold on the floors?
