Graffiti Art - Scavenger Hunt Photo

#15 - Graffiti art
The next thing I've checked off my list for Rinda's
* * * * * * *
I ventured into downtown Phoenix all by myself last weekend, parked my car and took a walk. These are photos I took within a two-block radius. It's probably not the best part of town to be alone in, but there really was no one around on a Saturday morning so I felt alright.
{Note to Carrie: Please do not go here alone. Ever. Thank you.}

 The mural above is a parody of our local government.
Controversial Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpiao
and Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.
Pretty amazing stuff, right? The majority of the graffiti in these photos is painted with the consent of the building owners. Though it's in a seedy part of town, the artwork is really something to see!

Do you have graffiti art in your town?
How about graffiti that's not welcome?
{We have our share of that too!}

Man, it's pretty sedate out here in my part of town ... perhaps I need a road trip too?
Great shots Deb ... I am giggling though, can't really see me and my two cohorts trotting off to the seedier side of town for graffiti shots ... you never know though!

Wow, that's a feast of graffiti art! We don't have anything like that here. We do have murals on the end of rows of terrace houses, but those are the kind you see on news reports and certainly not the kind I want to record!

What a great photo trip - we don't have anything equivalent here.

nothing at all like that around here in my sleepy little rural town. I would have to drive to Philadelphia (over an hour) to find anything at all.

The graffiti over there is very different to anything I've seen here. We don't really have any in our town but as you get closer to London you'll see writing on the walls etc., but I've not seen graffiti like yours ;-) xx

Okay - there's so much I love about this post. I love your admonishment to Carrie to never go to this part of town because I'm sure your mom is thinking the same thing. I also love the early morning timing of your trip - Paul's an early riser, and he's always said that it's the safest part of the day because the criminals are all still asleep. Finally, I love the artwork. The "Flower Shop Girl" is particularly exquisite. Thanks for sharing,
Rinda

they are all quite talented. i love finding buildings with graffiti art on them, though we don't really have any here.

What a waste of talent! These young artists should be framing their work and showing it at the Phoenix Museum of Art (is there one??) And Rinda was on target with her remark--but not knowing you were going before hand makes it easier to bear!!! Ignorance is bliss! Beautifully done, though! Love you and so happy you survived! xo

Some amazing graffiti,Deb...the best ones over here tend to be in the less desirable places as well.Though in our town we do have a genuine 'Banksy' on our seafront...which not only did the council leave there...they also put protective plastic over it.....which is not their normal reaction to graffiti!!!!

great grafitti art! I have to echo the previous comments of having no artwork like that around here. I think thats one of the things that put me off doing this scavenger hunt - decorated mailboxes? here?
Its great to see what other people have found though :) xx

Beautiful! I was on the lookout in Chicago but saw nothing that would fit the hunt's description. This hunt is making you right courageous, sneaking pics of the castle, early morning trips to the "seedy" part of town. My nephew and his wife are moving there this fall, I'll have to share your post.

Fabulous photos Deb! You were brave going to that area alone but the photos are worth it :)

You got some great shots! No graffiti here - some in "the city" ...

Wow! Emphasis on the art here. You found some beauties. Well done.

wow that is a amazing art. So big. Here in England, the graffiti is fairly horrible, rude words etc. Your pictures are so colourful and bright. A real document of the place.
