Cosmetic Bag ~ Shower Gift Part I

Our niece Karie is getting married next month.
Here's a little look at one of the gifts I made for her bridal shower.
:o)

There are plenty of online tutorials for zippered cosmetic bags and I've wanted to give those a try for some time now. But, it wasn't until Carrie gave me Amy Butler's book "12 easy ways to 26 wonderful bags" for Christmas that I found instructions that were really easy to follow.

I wanted to dress it up a bit, so I used this pretty fabric I found to
create a ruffled look on the front {eh-hm...my idea, not Amy Butler's...;o) }

I love the look of this gathered fabric combined with the heavy canvas.

I lined the bag with a pretty teal fabric but if I show you that you'd
see part II of this gift, so you'll just have to wait till my next post.

And now, I have about 500 things to fit into one short weekend!
Ready...set...GO!!!
What's on your agenda?

I LOVE this bag! Can't wait for you to show your blog readers what you put in it, too - because it was just as cute! :)

Very nice start! Can't wait to see the finished gift! Your shoulder must definitely be better--you are in constant motion again! Love you! xo

Actually, Mom, I made this bag last month before it got too bad. I've put away the rotary cutter until I get my shoulder properly fixed! ♥

Aw, sorry your shoulder is still playing you up!
The bag looks wonderful. I do love the bright, ruffled panel in the center of the front section. Looks gorgeous - I can't wait to see the "whole bag" shot when you show us the rest of the gift.
We're in the middle of a busy Saturday - garden centre, farmers' market, buying paper (me of course!), homework (the boy and me!), lunch, garden work (DH), checking my shop/e-mails/etsy messages & orders (one last night!), visiting my mum to do jobs... now I am cooking her some meat for her freezer and cooking us a goulash for our dinner... and of course, there's the laundry etc... Tomorrow my baby great-niece is being christened, so we will be out early and not home til the afternoon. I think we're busy this weekend!
Enjoy yours!

It is beautiful - and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what went inside. I have an Amy Butler book about sewing for babies - her instructions are so clear aren't they?

Best of luck with the web meet-up tomorrow :)

Thanks for the heads up on the Amy Butler book. Sounds perfect for my sister. I've been a bit sick all week, so have been taking it easy. As a result, I've got lots of work-work to do (papers to read manily). Plus laundry. There's always laundry. Paul & Clara went to the snow; Henry and I stayed here for his baseball game, which got cancelled due to weather. Plus I"m teaching an art journaling class tomorrow. Wow - that's beginnning to feel like 500 things, too!

On my agenda? Oh, um, about 500 things (including finding a copy of that book so I can make one of those lovely looking bags.)

Hope the shoulder gets better soon x

Do you think this book is suitable for someone who can't even thread the bobbin on her sewing machine? ;-) I think I could learn very quickly if I had this little beauty to tempt me!

Are you all set for the International Skype Cropping Extravaganza?

You're such a tease! I have some Amy Butler fabric and a pattern for a purse sitting in my basket. I think I might want to get busy with it since it's been there a year. Can't wait to see the rest.

I'm still struggling with pain from the surgery. Tonight we went out for a while to get a shot of the super moon, and I finished my third book in the last week! On my agenda: March Madness and I hope enough energy to make a few cards and take some photos for classes I'm taking! Good luck tomorrow. I'll be anxious to hear about it. I'm sorry to miss it.

I love it! You really need to sell these - amazing! Deb, I SO wanna be you "when I grow up". I'll switch you lessons in anything I know how to do for sewing lessons, OK? And with the SNOW we had today, you don't even need to travel - I'll come to you!
