When the going gets tough...

This is what our Arizona sky looked like last Saturday morning:
.
Seriously? I was like, "Hey! Where's my sunshine!"
But the clouds were so pretty and I did take some time
to admire and photograph them. And I literally kept
going outside looking for a rainbow. I just knew there
would be one...eventually...but nonetheless, no.
{LOL. I was pretty pitiful.}
I decided to make some pumpkin/butterscotch chip
cookies for Doug to take to his dad. Ended up eating
a lot of them myself.

I had lunch with my three SIL's, then
we took a walk in the rain, and I took
this fun picture of Doug's sister, Meta
and me in the rain.
{Thanks for cheering me up, SIL's! I♥U!}

I played with dough at an Italian restaurant...
because this little monkey didn't want to...{And by the way, in case you don't know,
photographing a 2-year old is busy work!
You have to think fast to get the shot.}
I did a little sewing this weekend which also
allowed me to reflect on things at hand...

And allowed myself to admit that I was too overloaded
to take on another project, even though the fabric is bought,
and washed, and cut, and partially sewn. My shoulder's having
none of it, and I'm stressing about commitments and time
limitations, so I'm switching gears...
I also cut myself some slack with this week's
assignment in the photography course I'm taking.
Apparently one needs to be in a clear-minded state
to fully grasp the concept of the dreaded shutter speed.
{putting it aside...not giving up...}
My cats have been hanging close by me the
past few days. Whiskers is becoming more affectionate
now that he's getting older (he'll be 5 this year). He's firm
and soft and comforting to snuggle with. Love him!!!
And this weekend I thought a lot about my mom's illness and what this all means. I felt like the world around me was going extremely fast paced, or at least I was moving in slow motion. I searched for a pair of earrings for 5 minutes before I realized I was already wearing them!
.
My mom (and Carrie and I) really appreciated all of your comments expressing love and support regarding our family's upsetting news. We'll get back on track and face this with strength and dignity ~ it's what we do. And you would too. ♥
.
Thanks, everyone!
XOXOXOXOXO!!!

I'm glad that you had some good distractions this weekend and I'm glad me and you got to hang out, even if there aren't any pictures to prove it!

And Whiskers is going to be 5?! OMG!

Yes, it's helpful to keep going and get out and about with friends & family; somehow you do find yourself conscious of the tasks you really want to accomplish, those that can wait and those that are not important after all. This kind of news puts life into sharp focus and brings a clearer perspective. I love that cute photo of your little niece(?) - she's a sweetie! Your sil is so smiley - she looks fun.

All of you girls take care and be sure to get time to rest and relax. I'll be thinking of you all, these family crises are hard, but they are less hard when you face them together. God bless you and give you the strength you need to get through this and get your mom well again. X

It is good that you recognize the need to cut yourself some slack. Just enjoy the time with your family as you work your way through this. Sending more positive vibes to you and your family.

Not surprisingly, you're making good choices about your time and commitments. It's so good to have family there to help support you. Know our prayers are there as well.

I am so glad to see that you are taking the healthy approach and putting some things aside (not forever but for now) Do the things that renew you, that give you strength, that make your heart sing.. doing those things will make you even more helpful to your mom.

Glad to hear you are prioritising things and not putting too much pressure on yourself.
However, I'm pretty sure that doing those creative things are going to be your form of 'therapy' over the next few months and I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of that fabric....!

Debs, I've started a mesage 5 times and deleted it - don't know what to say other than my thoughts are with you all - continue to be kind to yourself

Hi Deb, Glad you are being sensible and ordering the things that are important and those that are not. You seem to have a lovely support network of ladies around you. Take care of yourself too.

Funny how the cats know that you are in need of some comfort :) We're still holding on tight with you and hoping for the very best for you all x

You're so right,Deb....to make choices that are right for at this moment in time....and cuddling with cats is definately one of them.
Sending you hugs.

Isn't it funny how the furry friends know when we need extra love and cuddles? And I'm glad too that your SIL's were there to cheer you up. Hang in there sweetie! (Oh - and what photography class are you taking? I see a definite improvement!)

Good for you! Slow down and breathe--glad you are taking your own advice. How many times have you said to me--"Breathe, Mother". I absolutely hate that I've turned the family up-side down but so glad that when we are right-side up again, we'll be even happier and so much more appreciative of everything! Love you! xo

Definitely cut yourself some slack at this time. You need it. I love doing yoga in times of stress b/c it does remind me to focus on what's really important.

I'm glad you took some time out over the weekend and that you have family around you. Cats know when you need them near and this is obviously the case with Whiskers. Take care of yourself and love to all of you. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers xxx

Yes, keep just busy enough, but know when to put something aside for now. Don't sit around and dwell, but don't overload yourself either. And know that we're all here for you, thinking of you and praying for you all xx

(I didn't really need to say any of that, did I? You've got it just right!)

Glad that you have tried to think about doing other things. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to not think about your mom being ill though.
Take time for yourself as well as doing things for your family. Keeping you all in my thoughts.

My you're keeping busy. I missed the distressing news, but I'm working backwards. Sending you good thoughts whatever it is.
