What I Think About I Bring About ~ My word for 2011

For the third year in a row I am choosing one word to be my focus for the new year. I've given this a lot of thought and I've decided on the word THINK.

I wear this red plastic bracelet every day to work that reads, "WHAT I THINK ABOUT I BRING ABOUT." It was given to me two years ago when I first came to work for my current employer and is a concept I hold close to heart. Do I always practice it? Nope. Hence, my focus on the word THINK for 2011.

Now, that's not to say that I just want to think randomly. No, my focus is on practicing what I think, moving away from "stinking thinking" and into a "think happy thoughts" mode.

Along with my focus on controlling what I think, I've also made a little list of goals/intentions/ok, ok, resolutions for the new year. I purchased a little date book and plan to use it throughout the upcoming year to keep track of my progress and remind myself to stay on task.

You'll see in the left column of my date book is my little list, in no particular order of importance. It reads:

♦ Drink water.
This is something I'm mindful of, but I could still drink lots more. It's so good for you!!!

♦ Eat less sugar and other white food.
Tough one. I love me some pasta and potatoes...

♦ Laugh {at myself too}
I seriously need to lighten up on myself!

♦ Give up swearing
Ok now, before you go judging me, I don't swear that much, and it's only in certain situations, but it's enough that I want to break the silly habit.

♦ Learn PhotoShop and have stuff printed.
I've dabbled, but haven't reached a level I can be proud of. Yet.

♦ Move more! Yoga, etc.
I give up walking in the mornings this time of year because it's too cold and super dark at the time I could be walking. I'm back to doing yoga in the mornings but need to do it before I pour that cup of coffee and sit down to read my morning blogs.

♦ Take a picture everyday - project 365
Carrie has convinced me to join her in this venture. I'm doing great so far! {ha! 3 days down, 362 to go!!!}

So there you have it.
My humble list of things to accomplish for myself this year.
And so it is written.

Great list! I love your word for the year. I do drink a ton of water, and I gave up most white stuff in October (bye-bye 10 lbs!) and I DO have some photos printed. But I also need to move more, cuss a less (just like you, not often, but oops!), learn more Photoshop (get the scott kelby book for your version. It will help!), AND I started a 365 for the first time. Phew! It is a good year for self-improvement. Another goal is to meet Traci someplace warm - you in? ;)

Well, you've got me THINKing! I'm going to tag along with your life and see how I can do! I think the biggest challenge for me is going to be the food part. From a former heavy-weight to a WW success, there is no reason for me to be carrying this extra 10 pounds! I've got part of the list going--move more, not swearing, more water. The Photoshop and pictures I'll leave to you, darling talented daughter!!!! BTW, LOVE THIS POST! XO

Great word, and a good list to accompany it. Good luck with the Project 365. I've tried (and failed) twice, so this year I'm doing Project 52. I'm going to focus on macro photography. I have a new macro lens and I'm really struggling with it.

You picked the perfect word for the year. It is going to inspire a lot of people including me. "Think" seems so simple but can lead to so many things.

I restarted my 365 picture project and my 8 weeks of yoga on the 1st and in this case not "think I can" but "know I will". Good Luck!

Hi Deb, Thanks for replying to my comment =) I was really surprised to receive a message from you =) I chanced upon your blog a few months ago and have been following it ever since. I have to say, you blog REALLY often compared to me. I have to ask for your secret... how do you find the time to blog almost every day?! By the way, I'm from Singapore.... Hi from the equator, where it's humid all year round >_<

I like your intentions Deb and the wristband saying is so very true!

Perhaps you and Doug need to 'intend' to take a visit to Australia? Just saying :-)

Having seen your comment on Amy's blog - I THINK you need to go to Australia with Doug too ;-)
That list could have been written by me, I never drink water, I never met a white food I didn't like and I do need to do more exercise ...
Looking forward to seeing the results of this 365 challenge.

Super word choice Deb and resolutions that most of us should THINK about following!

Sipping water as we speak! Those 8 glasses a day really do make a difference. I love your bracelet. In a similar (but pricier vein), I decided not to sign up for Ali Edwards' Yesterday & Today class and used the money to buy a "one little word" necklace instead! I think it will help keep me on track and the fresh water pearl totally sold me.

That's a great word and I love the bracelet! I constantly catch myself in negative thought patterns and have to stop, erase, rephrase what I've been thinking. I hope you have a very thoughtful 2011!

Hi Deb, glad you have your word for the year, I am still contemplating mine.
I hated Photoshop until I took an online class with Jessica Sprague, her classes are great, check out her site.
Good luck with the Project 365, you can do it! I have done it for 3 years now so if I can manage it any one can, it is well worth it trust me.
