Chess Pie. And a cat.

Am I the only one on the planet who had never heard of chess pie?
. The week before Christmas one of the patients where I work mentioned that he was going home to bake pies. I asked what kind he was making and he rattled off a list of the regular fare and ended with "chess pie." What? Yeah. He said it was a southern dish that used to be made when other ingredients weren't available for pie filling.

A Google search later and I knew that I'd have to make one of these babies to serve for dessert on Christmas day. It has sugar, butter, milk, eggs, vanilla, and cornmeal and my little family LOVED it. I will definitely be making this again! The flavor was a bit like creme brulee (which I love) and I found the recipe here if you are so inclined to make one too.

Whiskers Jay helped decorate, and he was around for the dismantling too. I love this photo of him so I thought I'd throw it into this post...one last little glimpse of Christmas. So long most wonderful time of the year...

Okay. I'd heard of Chess pie but never had a clue what it was like. So, after seeing your's and checking out the recipe, I may have to try it. Now that I've decided buying Pillsbury redi-crust is not a sin, I'm more inclined to bake a pie now! Looks yummy, my DD! xo

Looks yummy. Please send a piece ASAP! My dog "helped" put the garland together for our tree. However I suspect she only hung around because I used pretzels to make it.

Man that makes me hungry! I think that picture would make a great Christmas card. I just bought a few packages of gift bags, a roll or wrapping paper and some tissue on big sale today. I put it away and thought it was really the end to the Christmas season.

My parents grew up in the south, so I am familiar with chess pie - and love it, too. I will have to try your recipe.
