Candle making with Carrie.

Carrie featured this idea on her blog's "Friday Favorites" a while back for making candles in teacups. I found these cute little red cups at our local thrift store and they were perfect for Christmas candles! This was the first time either of us had played with wax, so we also threw in a few empty baby food jars just for practice.

Me, in Carrie's cute blue kitchen.
{No photos of Carrie from this day because she wasn't feeling photo worthy.}

We melted the wax in an empty coffee can sat into a pan of hot water.

.
Of course, Marcus was underfoot during the entire process.
{He is such a good dog. Love him!}
Wrapped up and ready to give.
:o)

Making candles was fun because it was time spent with Carrie, but I doubt either one of us will make it a regular hobby. One thing we learned is that once the wax cools it shrinks a bit. I need to melt some more wax and add a little to the tops of each of the candles we made last week. {Sorry, Corri D! We didn't realize that until after we gave you the candle!}
*****
Next project: Crafting with my mom while she's in town this weekend! :o) ♥

What a lovely present Deb. I have not made candles for years I used to make them all the time. Great idea with the red cups very festive x

Clara used wax to make a model of an animal cell in science this year, and I agree it was a bit messy. Can't really see myself as a candle maker, although I have enjoyed coating collages with bees wax now and then!

Those are so adorable! I love the little red cups. I make candles too but not as often as I would like. Marcus looks very cute, how old?

Such an adorable present! I've never tried candle making before but love the idea of making your own so you can put them in cute containers like those red mugs :)

The little red cups are absolutely perfect! I can remember before we had the kids we used to do pprojects like this, the two of us, before Christmas - my DH loved to make candles but he could never bring himself to burn them so we still have a boxful! A lovely, cheerful Christmas post

Love these Deb- and a great gift! I made some a few years ago in these beautiful old teacups I had found. They come out great, don't they?

PS: Anxious to see what you have planned for us to do this weekend! Your ideas are always so clever--remember the button wreaths last year? So cute! xo

Anonymous did it again! Hit the key too fast and didn't have my name in!

This was fun! (even though I didn't really participate in any of the candle making proccess...although I did cut the wax!) I totally want to make more and I'm bummed to hear that you don't! :(

Carrie ~ I will totally make more candles with you if you want. You were a really good wax cutter!!! xoxox

I've tried making candles and glycerin soap before - neither were particularly successful! I love your presentation idea - did you scent the candles?

By the way - the Christmas Pudding needs to age - I probably made it a little late - just. You re-steam the pudding for about 2 hours on the day and it is luscious and moist :-)

Well, they sure look cute, but good to know about the shrinkage. And, as you might be able to imagine, I am entirely won over by Marcus.

They are so cute. You two are so creative. It is so special that you share the love of creating and get to spend all that time together.

They are gorgeous Deb! I tried making some candles recently, its actually quite hard isn't it? Mine were made in moulds and looked slightly wonky when they came out! I think I need more practice! :)

That's a clever idea for a gift - you still have the sweet little cup, even after the candle has all gone! Two gifts in one!

Those are too cute! What are you and MOTHER making?

I haven't made candles in years, but I'm quite sure mine were never as pretty as these. The packaging is wonderful.
