I've had a couple of requests for step-by-step instructions on making layered flowers and I am happy to oblige. Plus, it gave me an excuse to make more flowers - something that I am loving right now!

Here's how it goes down ~Gather some paper scraps. I used cardstock and book pages, but have also used patterned paper before. It's fun to use different papers and textures for this project.
Next, get yourself some punches. I have a few flower punches, and some circle punches in different sizes. My favorite punch for flowers is the scalloped edge punch because it gives a nice petal edge right from the start. If you don't have punches, you can certainly cut your own shapes with scissors (but I recommend you treat yourself and at least get a scalloped edge punch!!!).
You'll also need some store-bought flowers to mix in, as well as some buttons, brads, and/or rhinestones for the flower centers.

In fact, I loved it so much I sat outside (where the light was good for photos) for 3 hours playing with paper and punches. What a great Saturday afternoon!

There are so many possibilities for this type of flower making! I'd love so see what you come up with!

PS: I will do another tutorial sometime soon with instructions for making the flowers that are scrunched and ruffled looking. They are a little different and require additional photos and instruction. :o)

Oh, Deb! They all look totally fab! I'll be giving your techniques a try very soon. :)
Deb - you are amazing! My daughter actually asks me now "the nice lady who sent you the notebook" taught us how to make now.
Best,
Stephanie
Pretty AND unique! I think I can do those! Coming soon to a craft room in my house! xo
What a great tutorial. Love the pictures. My only scallop is a big oval, so that might not work.
Still working on my flower and button pages for Shimelle's class, and this gives me more ideas.
Thanks!!!
Rinda
Woweee! So cool! I make stacked flowers too, but they are nowhere near as good as these.
Well done, Deb, this is a great tutorial. Such a simple format - just pictures with labels!
I have a couple of circle punches and a scalloped circle, but only teeny-weeny flower punches. Have plenty of chipboard flower shapes to use as templates though!
I may have to make some of these... when I've done my own tutorial for the folded flowers I sent you!
These are lovely Deb! I think it's your colour combinations which make them so special too. And I wish we had the weather for sitting outside right now..
These are lovely. I've made something similar using basic circles before now, but I think I'll have to invest in some punches. You've twisted my arm!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! Your flowers are so lovely. Now I see that one of the reasons mine have been lacking is because I wasn't inking the edges. That really does add the perfect touch!
That was an awesome tutorial. Great backyard.
What a perfect tutorial. I am loving making my own simple flowers with the punches I've got. Would you go the extra mile and identify your punches, please?
Thanks, ladies, your comment makes me so happy!!!
And Sharyn ~ I agree that the inking definitely makes these pop. I ink EVERYTHING. I'm not sure if you can tell by the photos, but I even inked the store-bought flowers that I used in the stack.
Elizabeth ~ I just saw your note. I had taken a photo of all my punches lined up but was embarrassed to post it because...well...it's a little excessive.
The small circle is a 1", and I have a 1-3/4" circle, and a 2" scalloped punch. The others are just different sized flower punches. The one shape that has the pointy petals? I have that one in three sizes. :o]
I hope this helps...and I hope you get this reply. I'm never sure if I leave a comment under a current thread if my readers will see it.
Thanks for your interest! xo
These are gorgeous Deb, thanks for sharing.
These sre gorgeous...lovely,simple instructions....pics work so well.Must get out my scalloped punch!

thank you sooo much for this tutorial! Hope I get home soon to try this and follow every step to get lots of pretty pretty flowers!
As a punch addict I'd love to see your photo of the punches. I think you did a post about making Valentine tags when you talked about punches which made me play! You definitely "need" the sets of different sizes.
Gorgeous flowers and thanks for the great step by step photos and instructions.
One day I would love to get together and play :)
Gorgeous flowers - thank you sooo much!!!! Definitely on my to do list!!
Your flowers are just gorgeous! Thanks for showing how you make them, I'm definitely going to give it a go!! Love your blog, BTW!
