Cardstock - Class Prompt/Assignment

Posting back-to-back Shimelle class projects...

You know I'm currently taking Shimelle's class "Something from {Almost} Nothing" and posting pages to my blog as I go. Funny, Shimelle reminds us regularly not to worry about keeping up, to work at our own pace and do our own thing. I thought I was ok with that, but I sure did feel relieved last night to finish this layout and be on top of things. Now I'm ready for tomorrow's prompt (and I'm off work all next week so I'll really be up to speed)!

This particular prompt was to use cardstock. When I read the prompt my first thought was "Cool. This will be a breeze." Not. I struggled with this...tried different matting techniques...nothing was happening for me. Then I changed out the plain black cardstock for a nicer textured one and all of a sudden I was back in the game.
The silhouette hearts were cut using "George and Basic Shapes" Cricut cartridge, the scalloped edge is a punch I have, and the birds were done using a Martha Stewart punch (I resisted the strong urge to use more butterflies on this page!).

Does anyone other than me look at the mess when you
have completed a project and think it's pretty?

Beautiful! I"m a red & black fan, and I'm really loving the pop of light blue/teal with it. I also think the printed ribbon really "makes" this layout.

p.s. I'm linking to your house front in my blog tomorrow - hope that's okay.

Yes, I look at the mess, think it's pretty and then walk away and leave it!

I love the textured cardstock you've used; it really adds a little extra something to your lovely page.

Another great layout, I love the way you're sticking with the colours for this album. I'm like you, have to have textured cardstock to make it feel right.

Love this so much :-) The offset matting is fab, and I love all the little touches x

And if the mess looks pretty, call it art or home decor and leave it there! ;-)

Beautiful page Deb - love the colour combo and the textured cardstock really sets it off.

I hate the mess that is left after scrapping as I don't have a dedicated scrapping space so have to clear up completely after each session.

I love my crafting leftovers - it normally inspires me to start something new. I'm loving the birds!

This LO is simply stunning!! I have just made a start on my Cardstock LO...I too like to 'keep up' but don't always manage it, so I fully know where you're coming from!!

How about one comment for both layouts?? Absolutely devine! I don't know how you do it--it looks so random and yet so put together and perfect! I never know when to use ribbon and since my collection is mini compared to your's (uh, make that almost non-existent) it's hard to have just the right piece. Great job on both pages, my DD! xo

I really like the colour choices you have made for these last 2 layouts. They are both great.
Due to sickness and then spring break I have not even started on any of the prompts and feel bad about it. Hoping to catch up soon.

I quite agree with you about the pretty mess at the end. Often my inspiration COMES FROM the mess on my table.
