Welcome to Chandler, Arizona

This is what I really wanted my post title to be today:

Welcome to my Town, Introducing My First Photo for Rinda's Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt, and Zoom-in-Zoom-Out for Helena

Phew. Too long.

Anyway! The first item on the list for Rinda's Photo Hunt is this: "A sign welcoming people to your home town." Technically speaking, my "hometown" is Dos Palos, California, but since I won't be able to photograph a sign there during the course of this scavenger hunt {maybe?}, I went with my current town, Chandler, Arizona.

And, the cool thing is that I pass by these signs every day on my drive home from work, so when I read Rinda's list I knew right away where I'd go to photograph this item.

It was a beautiful morning last Saturday, and I headed up the road to take some photos of these signs. I made sure to get up close so you couldn't see the power lines and dead grass/weeds along the canal in my next shot, and then I thought, hey! Why not throw in a broader shot for Helena's Zoom In/Zoom Out meme. I haven't had a chance to participate in this meme at all so far this year - too many memes, too little time, I guess. Here's the zoomed in version:

 And here's the zoomed out:

Have you checked out the list of items on Rinda's Photo Hunt for this summer? There are 21 items, with two bonus/alternative options and with today's post I'm in the running with one item checked off. You can view her complete list here.

And you can see more Zoom In / Zoom Out photos on Helena's blog by clicking here.

Welcome to Chandler, Arizona.
Now if I could just find a waterfall...

PS: Population of Chandler, Arizona is 244,164. And this street is usually crowded with cars, but I was there early on a Saturday morning and waited for cars to pass before taking the photos. :o)

I'm not convinced we even have a 'Welcome to ...' sign and here you are with several to choose from! I found a marker for where the county turns from Essex to Hertfordshire but that doesn't really fit the task exactly so I will have to keep driving and looking!

Great shots,Deb....I love that your town has just celebrated 100 years....while mine will soon be celebrating 1000 years!!

I'm smiling because, while you might beat us hands down (20 times over in fact!)when it comes to population, our little town has been around since at least the 9th century.

Great shots! I just posted my first photos for the scavenger hunt, and neglected to add that our town is celebrating it's Bicentennial this year. Tracy's sitting on the planning committee so I don't know how I forgot it!

Love these signs Deb, and that zoom out was a surprise! I would never have guessed that lovely sign was surrounded by so much . . . busy-ness! I guess perspective and cropping really do make a huge difference.

The zoom IN is so much more appealing than the zoom out! Love the signs, especially the stone ones.

I've also tried to do a BOGOF deal on ZIZO/SH2014 ... how creative are we!!!

Great photos! We do have a sign but it is in the middle of a very busy roundabout, so I am going to have to think creatively as to how to photograph it!

Oh yes, this is a great lesson in cropping and framing your shot - well done Deb, it's lovely to see such bright weather and welcoming signs!

Great shots Deb..and I too thought the zoom out of the stone sign would be surrounded by cacti etc....not electricity pylons!!

Lots of variety in your shots - fun.

Beautifully clear photos, Deb - and such a glorious sky ... Good time of day to go, clearly - we wouldn't want you risking life and limb! I love the sharpness of the carving in the stone.

Hi there! Wondering if I could please use your image of Chandler being an all-american city for my blog It Started in LA. I'll credit you of course. We visited friends in Chandler last weekend and I couldn't get a good shot of the sign. Much appreciate it. gwen@itstartedinla.com
