A Poem and a Prize

{turtle blog giveaway}
~ ~

While I was working on this little turtle, a childhood melody kept coming to mind...

I had a little turtle,
I named him Tiny Tim.
I put him in the bathtub
To see if he could swim.

He drank up all the water,
He ate a bar of soap,
And now he's sick in bed
With the bubbles in his throat.

And then I added:
I made this little turtle,
And now she needs a home.
Leave a comment on this blog post,
And she could be your own.

Just a quote for Friday

{because when my mom saw my grandma's bird, she wanted one too}

"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart,
and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."

Crocheting with Grandma

♦ ♦ ♦

I had the good fortune of spending some time with my sweet grandma while I was in California last month. She made lunch for me, we drank coffee together, and she gave me a lesson in crocheting.

I've dabbled with crochet in the past, taught myself how to crochet a granny square by watching YouTube videos {Seriously? You can learn how to do anything on YouTube!}, and feel like I have the basics down.

{LOVE this photo of Grandma's hands with mine taken by my step-dad, Rod.}

What I really wanted to know from Grandma is how to do the stitch she uses for the countless afghans she's made for pretty much every member of our family. Someday I'll make one myself, now that I know the secret. ;o)

I loved spending time with her, and I know she enjoyed my company too. I found this free pattern for a funky little bird and stitched it up to send to her as a token of my appreciation for the crochet lessons.

I do think she's going to like this little birdie.

And I'm posting this today because my grandma is having surgery and I'd
love for you to keep her in your thoughts. It's a standard procedure,
but Grandma is 91 so it makes it a bit more tricky.
Her name is Gertrude,
and she's just the sweetest grandma ever.

I ♥ flowers.

Lately I've been dabbling in a little crochet. Learning to crochet a granny square got me hooked (pun intended) and I started looking for other tutorials on YouTube. (Did you know you can learn how to do just about anything by searching for videos on YouTube?!?!)
.
I found this tutorial and this one for making these cute little flowers. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them yet, but you can bet I'll figure out something! Got any ideas?

PS: I thought I was being very meticulous about my photo shoot here and when I uploaded the picture there was a cat hair in every one. ~sigh~ Good thing I love that little monster so much!

My new addiction...obsession...thing I love to do...

Granny Squares.

Who knew they would be so much fun to make? Who knew they would be so addicting...just one more...just one more...just... I want to make hundreds of them in SO many different colors. I want to make an afghan TONIGHT. I need yarn.
.
I watched a few YouTube videos over and over and over, had several mess-ups before I actually got the process down, but I did it!!! :o) .

~sigh~
.
There are worse addictions!
