Eight years ago today:
Guests stream through our home and into the backyard where our wedding will be held. I wait with my bridesmaids for the ceremony to begin, and we can't resist peeking through the blinds to see who's arriving. I am so happy, giddy, and grateful in this moment. My 16-year old daughter will walk me down the aisle, and we’ll smile brightly at Doug, this man who means so much to both of us.
Everything I’ve done in my life so far has led me to this moment. In this moment I am all grown-up, I am settled and I am whole. I’m going to be Doug’s wife. I fight back emotional tears and think to myself, "Only happy tears today, Deb. Only happy tears..."
The door opens and it’s my aunt, Sue. “It’s time,” she says, smiling sweetly, and we all take our place in line. The music starts and here we go. We’re coming now, Doug. The waiting is over.
