Photo Cube with a Twist

Holla, blog peeps!

We're well past the holiday season
{is it me or does Christmas seem like it was forever ago?}
and now I can show you the gift I made for my
awesome step-dad, Rod for Christmas.

I saw this idea in a scrapbook store over three years ago and loved it so much that I bought the photo cube right then and there. The store that held this inspiration didn't allow photos, so I pulled out my little notebook and sketched the basic design so I'd remember how it was assembled. All I needed then was a good set of photos to put inside.

Rod and my nephew, Stone have the sweetest bond I've ever seen. This boy LOVES his grandpa! From the time Stone was a little baby he would have nothing to do with anyone else if Papa Rod was around. At the age of three he's still that way.

When I took these photos of Rod and Stone looking for snails in the backyard I knew I wanted to display them somehow, and I knew that I'd finally found the perfect photos to go into this cube.

Blogger is being temperamental about photo positioning, but I'm using this next photo to show what the cube looks like from the top. I printed the sheet of words to use for the bottom of the cube onto Kraft cardstock, then stamped some random stuff on it to distress it a bit. The photos are mounted on cardstock that was cut to the same width as the diagonal measurement of the cube. I cut three identical pieces - left one flat, and then folded the other two which I glued back-to-back. Then I added photos and sentiments and popped the cube back together.

My step-dad loved his Christmas gift,
and the added little surprise was that Stone loved it too!

What a wonderful way to display special photos Deb. I'd seen the cube in magazines before but this is the first time I've seen it used. Love it and I'm not surprised Rod and Stone did too. Your photos also remind me of one I had of my Dad and Emily, I'll have to see if I can find it.

It's no wonder Rod loved it, not when he knew just how much love is involved in it, both inside and out. Fantastic gift.

What a lovely project this is - and so nicely photographed too, so we can see how to do it. I know another little boy who would like one for his room - it's perfect for little hands to grab hold of

What a wonderful gift Debbie, I love how this uses a 'norma' photo cube in a completely different way so clever I would love to use this idea one day (not sure I am quite as clever as you tho!)
