My first home-grown [cherry] tomato.
{~angels voices sing in unison~}
:o) ♥
In all my 50 years on this planet, I had never grown anything that could be consumed until a friend gave me a basil plant about two years ago. I was hooked! So when Doug and I moved into our new home a few months ago, I quickly claimed a piece of the backyard and popped a few tomato plants in it (along with some basil, a jalapeno pepper plant, and some marigolds).
I was so excited when I discovered some little green tomatoes, that I totally missed the ripening gem at the base of this plant. I was watering my garden a couple of weeks ago when I spotted something red-ish-orange at the bottom. Oh.My.Gosh. I was so excited.
Doug and I shared it and I must say, it was very tastey!!!

You know, sometimes it's awesome being a simple soul.
The littlest things thrill me.
Have you ever grown something edible?

Well done you! I bet it tasted even better knowing it was the fruits of you labour. xxx
Home grown tomatoes are the best! I did once grow basil on my window sill and mustard and cress when I was a kid.
There's nothing like homegrown tomatoes. You might like to try growing 'sungold'.....they are tiny, a yellowy colour and taste so sweet....they actually could be a sweet!!
We love having a garden (sugar snap peas are great!).

that little tomato is too cute! So funny that you shared it - I would have convinced James to give it all to me.
My dad tends to give us a couple of tomato plants each summer and I have to say, the homegrown tomatoes have so much more flavour than bought ones! I'll have to give basil a go next - I love the smell even if I don't eat a lot of it (any recipe ideas there Deb?)
Hope your other tomatoes ripen soon :) xx
I have a couple of container gardens, I grow mostly herbs. Question--don't you think that the tomato overpowers the rest of your salad? Just sayin.
I'm so proud of you and your little tomato! :)
I love that you shared that tiny tomato xx
There is a great sense of achievement in growing something you can eat...hope your other crops are as successful!
Alison xx
You can't beat a homegrown tomato. They smell so delicious. Every year I get given tomato plants but cherry tomatoes are my favourite.
OMG so exciting ;D
In my 30 years, I also had my first tomatoes last summer - I was jumping for joy! ;)
I'm sure it was perfect!
xo
Well done! I grew cherry tomatoes this year - they were lovely and I got to eat them all as Hugh and Penny don't like tomatoes!
I put in a vegetable garden a year ago. It's the first gardening I've ever done. I love it. I'm trying to grow broccoli right now.
Homegrown tomatoes are the very best! We manage a crop of about half a dozen a year, but it's always a delight to eat our harvest. I bet you'll get lots more now with all your sunshine. Enjoy!
We grew cherry tomatoes last summer and it is kind of thrilling when you see that first one ripen...and nothing better than homegrown tomatoes picked straight from the vine still warm from the sun.
About 46 years ago in Oregon, I raised the biggest tomatoes and zucchini squash just because I could. I gave away laundry baskets full of them because my 3 small children weren't veggie eaters then. But the neighbors loved me (and the veggies!) Did you know that about me, Sweetie?? xo
There is absolutely nothing like the taste of home grown tomatoes. Sadly we don't get enough sun in our backyard anymore and the veggie garden has been replaced with a shade one.
