52 Donuts - Numbers 1 and 2

You thought I was kidding about the 52 donuts?
:o)

I had myself so pumped up over this mini donut maker before Christmas. Truthfully, I've had visions of making adorable little donuts tied up in bags to use as party favors, gifts, I don't know...just because. I half-jokingly boasted that I should make a different donut every week this year, but then I thought, "Sheesh. That's an awful lot of donuts. And there's only Douglas and me in this house...and on occassion Carrie. Not like I have any co-workers to share them with right now...and I don't want to seem like a crazy woman always carrying treats across the street to our still-fairly-new-neighbors..."

I suppose that's my little disclosure just in case I run out of steam on the lofty donut goal {and/or none of our clothes fit us anymore, whichever comes first}. Not to mention that this is no simple feat with my right arm in a sling {three more weeks!!!}.

Anyway! For now we'll just trudge forward with my 52 Donut project and see what happens.
The donuts shown above were made with a recipe that came with the donut maker {Sour Cream Donuts - recipe here} and I rolled them in a sugar/cinnamon mixture while they were still warm. Taste test = yummy when they are warm. Just so-so when cold, although I know they'd be delicious along side a hot cup of tea. {Edit to add: Doug said they were delicious with a cold glass of milk. I think that's what he just had for lunch.}

And just for the record, we'll backtrack a little here and talk about donut #1. I had this idea to try pancake batter in the donut maker and then top them with a maple glaze. I used this recipe {increased sugar to 1/2 cup} and they cooked up really nice and golden. Again, really good warm, not so much cold. In fact, I ended up throwing most of these away. Hey - you win some, you lose some.
 But they're cute, eh?

PS: Don't forget to put your name in for the drawing for Pass the Book in my last post! I'll be drawing a name on Wednesday, 1/11/12

Well they all look delicious,Deb....and I tend to the opinion that almost all donuts taste better warm.

"I don't want to seem like a crazy woman always carrying treats across the street" ... Hey, that's ME! lol! but the neighbors don't seem to mind much. The donuts do look cute - I mentioned you got it to my husband - the world's biggest donut lover. Later on, I mentioned I really want to go to Texas this year. Mr. Subtle says, "Arizona's nice too."! lol!

I love the donut project. Maybe make smaller batches?
But I'm also confident that you will soon be employed and will have co-workers looking forward to Donut Day!

Oh my goodness, these are going to be fun posts to look out for ;o) And I agree with Jacky, warm donuts always taste better regardless but I can eat donuts any which way (as my waistline shows!!) xx

I had half a donut today--the first one I've had in months and months. I think it's the power of suggestion! (I shared it with Tracy.) I LOVE that last shot--iPhone app?

i loved coming home from school to see the home made donuts my mom would make, but they certainly never looked as scrumptious as these :)

Donut making while in a sling...nothing slows you down when inspired and we get the visual fruits :) These look much more delish to me than the first round..just taste preference. Maybe you could drop them off as random acts of kindness (and attach a tag that says..best served after microwaving for 8 seconds <>. You could drop them off at the closest fire station, police station, library, church office, etc. Of course you would hold back a few for home!
