The donut of the week is chocolate.
Are you sick of donuts yet?
Eh-hm.
We kind of are.
Now that I've tried three of the four recipes in the cookbook that came with this donut maker, I've realized that the sweet factor is a bit lacking. And, maybe every one of those recipes is really better if you frost the donuts, adding a little bit more sweet factor.
We were not impressed with these donuts. I think they would have been WAY better if I'd had some mini-chocolate chips to stir into the batter, but I didn't and ended up throwing 80% of these donuts out because neither of us would eat them.
I sent some home with Carrie and she texted me later that night saying that her dog, Marcus, had eaten them. I replied with, "What did he think? Too dry?" {Hopefully the cocoa won't make him sick!}
I'll include the link for this recipe {here} just in case you want to give it a try.
I'm not giving up on the 52 donuts - at least not until I find a
really good recipe that makes this whole thing worthwhile.
Or until that little donut-making-gizmo gives out...
whichever comes first.

I bet there are better recipes out there for your donut loving family... hang in there deb! If the worst thing we can say is that your donuts were too dry, it wasn't such a bad day, right?
I have to say they LOOK very nice Deb...hoe disappointing about the taste!
Alison xx
I'm bummed I didn't get to try these ones! At least they didn't get thrown away at my house! ;)
They look so lovely too! I've got a tin for baking donuts in the oven. The recipe is even in cups. I could email it to you, if you would like it?
Shame they taste bad when they look so good....you'll just have to keep experimenting,Deb.
I'm still pretending I can't see donut posts... not making it easy to stick with "healthy eating"!
keep at it. i am sure the right recipe is out there.
I did wonder if you might suffer donut overload ...
They may have been the worst tasting, but I think they are the most photogenic so far - love the pix!
I think you probably just need better recipes.

Regardless of what they look like, they make tremendous photography subjects and I particularly like the first shot in this post today Deb!
Do you know you bought a tear to my eye today? Your very kind words were lovely and reaffirming to read - thank you. :-)
To be sure in this huge blogosphere someone has yummy donut machine recipes! Hmmm you may want to hold off on my act of kindness suggestion for sharing them until you find something they'll actually eat lol
Don't you hate throwing out home baked food? I always give some to the neighbors, but I have excellent neighbors.
You always manage to take such ingenious photos even if the donuts are not as tasty as you had hoped.
They're looking good. Love the picture of them on the straw.
OOOhhhh ~ how could you!!!?????
(sorry, donuts are just one of those things I don't eat anymore ;(
But enjoy - they do make people smile and smiling is what it's all about ;)
Good luck in perfecting your recipe - I think it's great you're making them homemade ;) Yum.
But what a great photo prop they made! I love these pictures--who knew donuts on a straw would be so darn cute!! Love you! xoxo
I luv donuts, hope you find a recipe that you really like.
Much as I love donuts, I think it's because I don't have them very often so when I do, they taste great. However, I love looking at the photos of your donuts, especially the first one today :)xx
So sad these didn't turn out great - chocolate is usually a winner and I'm sure the chips would have helped, too.
