The purpose of this post is two-fold:
1) To share the third batch of donuts in my quest for 52 this year; and
really push her over the edge!!!}
I'm working my way through the recipes that came with the Baby Cakes Donut maker before I venture off with any other recipes. This batch of buttermilk spice donuts was loved by some, not-so-liked by others. Personally? I wasn't real crazy about them. The recipe called for a whole teaspoon full of ground nutmeg and I immediately thought it was too much so I used a half-teaspoon and I think it was still too much. The nutmeg was really overpowering.
So...here I am making baby donuts with my right arm in a sling. Putting the camera on the counter and using the self-timer worked out much better for my recovering shoulder. {I about did myself in taking photos of Carrie this past weekend. Ouch!}
So, Carrie had an iPhone first, and she's the one who technically owns iTunes on our computer {though I'm pretty sure I've paid for 97% of the tunes in there...}, so when my phone got set up it got linked to hers. That's cool in some ways, but not so in others. Like, whenever I download a new app she gets a notification.
Carrie: "Dude. Why did you download a timer to your phone?"
Me: "Uh...because I needed one?"
Carrie: "Did you know there's already one in your phone under 'clock'?"
Ugh! How did she grow up to be so smart? :o\
But I digress. The first batch got a coating of sugar and cinnamon and were really yummy hot off the griddle with a cold glass of milk. The rest got frosted with some vanilla frosting {canned, slightly warmed in the microwave to make it dipping consistancy} and then sprinkled with some pink and some blue for my niece's baby shower.
There were a few left over that Doug had with coffee the next morning and he said they were still pretty good. I probably won't use this recipe again - but if I do I'd definitely leave the nutmeg out and go a different direction...maybe for donuts #23.
Peace, love, and baby donuts.

Well they just look amazing! I hope your arm is ok - I'm just off to catch up on some more posts :)
Donuts look yummy. Bake on. Have a good day.
Donuts look so good...wish I had one with my coffee right now! So funny about your notifications for apps...
Love the icing,Deb....but not sure I'd be too keen on nutmeg either.
These certainly do look yummy - I probably would have reduce or left off the nutmeg, too!
I guess you won't love every type you try. They look good though. I saw a recipe for donut muffins this weekend that I mIght have to try sometime ;) xx
lol about the timer that is definitely the kind of thing I would do :)
I'm not sure how much I would all that nutmeg either, but they certainly look the part. Very cute!
They certainly LOOK good!
Alison xx
you're killing me with the donuts - AND the cuteness
Thanks for calling me smart. :)
Your donuts were super pretty but not my faves. Extra looking forward to the red velvet ones coming soon!!
Hmm - cinnamon would be good but it does sound a lot of nutmeg - they look great though. Now I was waiting for the bacon :0)
Yes! It's your mother back on the computer! I think I just put on a pound reading this post! I can't believe how much you can do with one arm/hand! Another talent I wasn't aware of. I really hope I make it to AZ in March--looking forward to pigging out on baby donuts--they look amazingly delicious! xo
Can you show us more of the donut maker? How does it work? Like a waffle iron? Or a mini-fryer?
Deb - your pictures are great. I'm sure the donuts taste great too.
I am impressed with all of the ambidextrous cooking and typing and crafting - such talents you are capable of!
You win! Why aren't you 300 pounds.
I love this series!

They look so cute, but I wouldn't be keen on nutmeg by itself either. Maybe mixed spice or cinnamon instead. You will be so happy to be rid of that darn sling!
How you did all that with your arm in a sling I don't know? I like nutmeg but it does sound like alot.
visiting from your daughters blog.
you have a freakin' donut maker!? soo jealous. as an innkeeper i think i need to have one of these. right?
not sure if i would add nutmeg either. those look so good. i could not have all of them around me. i have no control.
